The gentleman who wrote this very rosy article about how easy it will be for the Skins to get 15 mill in cap room has now changed his position In a post on the forum that article was from. He is now not so confident it would seem since he now has thrown out the idea of going in the league year over_the_cap :laugh1: He fails to realize the NFL would start voiding their contracts if this were the case.

I love reading all the denials. You know the ones, "People have been saying this every year since 2000" & "Danny knows more than those idiot sportswriters", etc.

Its not like the Skins wanted to lose Smoot et al, or go into last year with no 2nd WR on the roster. The general lack of depth and holes are signs of cap wear. The fact they had those holes while still digging deeper cap holes is a sign the real heartache is about to hit.

The Skins have been in cap trouble and the further they dig trying to alleviate the burden for one season the worse it gets.

His original post wasn't very well thought out to begin with. I'm a novice at the cap and even I could see a lot of holes in the post. Yet, writers like Rich Tandler are such ginormous fanboys that they post it up on the main page and refer to it as the gospel.

The Skins won't be over the cap this year, regardless of what happens with the CBA. The NFL will fine them, take away draft picks, and will only allow them to field a team of players who meet under the cap. So theoreticaly they could wind up with a roster of say 43 players instead of 53 players and no team is stupid enough to want that.

It all comes down to the CBA. If it isn't extended, they'll be hurting. If it is, they'll probably not make much noise in FA, but they should be fine.

God, that guy is a moron. That he pretends to be some cap guru is ludicrous.

He is clueless to the point that he doesn't even know enough to know that he is clueless.

What a moron.

By the way, one of you people who are members there: why don't you link to this thread over at Skins site. He can come here and we can teach him enough to keep him from making these asinine posts.

I think I read somewhere that if you're over cap contracts start to get voided starting from the most recent, untill you're under.

Yes I told him that, and he didnt believe me, so I linked him to an article from the Falcons cap guy saying that and now he thinks the Skins can choose which contracts the NFL voids which isn;t how it works. Just goes to show their "cap guy" has no idea it would seem.

Well their cap guy has made his latest post. Now folloing his article saying how easy it would be to get 15 mill in cap roon he has reassesed his position and now says in order to get barely under the cap :

"We would have to cut 12 players - no big names, then rework the contracts of 11-13 players to both save cap room in 2006 and keep within the 30 percent rules"

http://mb20.scout.com/fcpndhardcorefrm1.showMessage?topicID=55430.topic

Cut 11 players and restructure a dozen more???? Sounds like cap hell to me

He also (wrongly) thinks that voiding a contract wipes out the player's entire cap hit, including all of the prorated signing bonuses that must count this season and in future years (which would accelerate into this season if the contract is voided).

Wow. That's a pretty serious misunderstanding of the cap.

Ah....it's like the slow death of the anaconda. It just squeezes a little more every year, causing them to cut loose more and more quality depth, and even starters. They can't even avoid that by the continuous pushing back of aging veterans contracts, such as Brunell, and to an extent, Samuels - who, while not "old", can't play forever.

I remember when Gibbs was hired, and he was asked about the salary cap, and he disregarded it as not a big deal. They'll continue to learn, as they pay for their overspending, and constant "we'll pay for it tomorrow" attitude. It's like a guy who just keeps getting credit cards, and transferring balances, and extending his limit....each time he does, he feels like he's gonna be ok, he's gonna climb out of this mess. But eventually, he's more in debt than he can ever repay.

I noticed Bubba has not responded to the last smack down Adam gave him. I will be very surprised if he responds at all.
