Not to call anyone out... Is coaching still the problem?

During the success that the Cowboys are having, does the coaching attitude, of being always positive, even when there are still mistakes...

Does that flaw still seem to be there? I really was wondering if the concept was true, that the Wade and Garret just could not motivate players the way that they should.

After the KC game, I really thought that the players needed to coach themselves, motivate themselves if they were going to make anything happen. Many people on this board were proponents of that idea.

I'm beginning to doubt it somewhat, because if the Cowboys players are coaching themselves, they are doing the best job I've ever seen. Either that, or Garrett has re-transformed from genius to hack and back to genius.

Not to throw spears at anyone... what do you think?

coaches are geniuses when you win--

That'a true but in all reality the coaches haven't changed anything or than making adjustments to help this football team.

Let's look at the beginning of the season for three important positions that have made a difference in this team:

WRs - Starters were Crayton and Roy everyone else got a few touches here and there. We still had alot of question marks here because not one WR stood above the other until Austin had his breakout game in KC.

DBs - Jenkins didn't solidify the starter role until after the Carolina game. That's the third game of the season and more importantly after the loss to a division rival that had Scandrick starting and he played a terrible game.

QB - Romo was still trying to figure out how to protect the ball and still be a playmaker. I would say the Atlanta game is when he found that happy medium of being a "gunslinger with the safety on". He has also played extremely well when teams try to blitz and has improved his game the most in this area IMO.

Now let's take a look at the Defense as a whole:

5 new starters is quite a bit to revamp an 11 man unit. That's almost 50 % of the entire unit not to mention sub packages. You just don't throw in guys and say go defend this guy or go do this without having a few hiccups here and there. This unit is starting to gel and also play pretty solid and we still have half a season to go. Much different from last year when the D got hot close to the end of the year.

Now lets examine the entire team:

Every unit looks like they are playing for each other. Although each unit is not playing perfect but they are playing sound fundamental ball which gives them better chances of eliminating mistakes.

The D is making a stop/takeaway to get the O the ball to score.

The O is scoring to put the team ahead.

ST is putting the ball in manageable spots for both the D and O to go and do their jobs.

When all 3 phases are helping each other out it makes it easier for the team to win a ball game.

The only game that I felt the coaches blew was the Denver game and when I say coaches I mean mainly Garrett.

Since then I really dont have to many complaints.

For the 1st time Wade has our Defense playing up to its potential.

Wade is earning his keep if for nothing else Mr. Fix it finally fixed it.

Yes. If you mean Wade. The declining the 4th down penalty in philly was a head scratcher.

To me though, Its never been X's and O's I had against Wade. I just never believed he could motivate well enough to succeed at a high level as a head coach. And he's got to do something about those penalties. Make people more accountable.

Just my $.02

In medical terms, the disease is healing but we are not out of the woods yet.

Wade and the staff are still a react and do only what is safe and gets the job done type. Could be much more aggressive if so desired.

Garrett is Garrett. Often too cute and "sequenced" for his own good.

Both are doing better at letting the players do more, but we have not peaked yet by any stretch of the imagination n either side of the ball.

Special teams has been an awesome improvement except for finding a full time explosive returner.

The Dallas Players have taken it upon themselves to ride like Cowboys, the good part about that is the Coaches are letting them do so.

This.

The only coach I dont like is Wade and that is because he is not a leader as a HEAD coach. He's always been a great defensive mind.

He isn't a leader however, and that has not changed.
