But I was having a discussion with another fan at lunch and the conversation of Romo and how long he can continue came up.

Would this be the draft that you might take a Bryce Petty if he's sitting there in Round 3 because he slid due to injury concerns?

I'll start by saying that no player's health is a given. Having said that, I believe JJ, Garrett, and Romo, himself, thinks Tony is good for 3 or 4 more years. Given how he performed this year and with another offseason to recoup, I also believe he will play a few more years. For that reason, I don't think Dallas takes a QB that high, if at all. There would be a fair chance that the player would play out his rookie contract on the bench and then go elsewhere. On top of that, I've read in more than one article that the Cowboys are pleased with Vaughn's progress. Then again, you never know.

If a good potential successor is available when the Cowboys select, I wouldn't think twice about it. They need to plan for the future.

If Petty was there in the 3rd or a QB they feel that highly about sure I would take him. I would rather have a young QB behind Romo learning than to wait until Romo retires then hope to find someone then wait on them to mature as a QB.

I think Romo looks to be ok for several years, too. That said, backup QB is right behind DE as the biggest weak spot on this team right now (depending what happens in the offseason). I'd be looking from the first round on if a player I really liked were available. And I'd be looking hard at who I could bring in to unseat Weeden in VFA, regardless. It's too important a position to have an injury risk and not have a qualified backup.

I'd rotate that QB3 slot, and keep it filled until we've got a viable replacement in place at QB2 from here on out. If Vaughan can't win the job next season, we need to find somebody capable of doing it.

We're the hottest team in the league, we're approaching the playoffs, times are good and exciting, the team is young and ballin and this is what you're thinking about? Unbelievable! Smh!

Well, if I could defend his possible thought process...this is a really talented good young team with an arrow pointed most-definitely up. The biggest possible setback to being able to relax and enjoy the next few years is what might happen to Tony Romo. He's older now, coming off a serious surgery, and we're still very reliant on him. I can understand wanting some insurance there. Even while I"m jacked out of my seat about the game this weekend.

I will go a step further.
I think Romo should help select a QB.

This! Too early to draft a replacement, I believe.
