We have used Marcus Spears in short yardage situation at least 3 times now. Guess what, I think we are 1 for 3 which is pretty aweful. The worse part is that everyone in the WORLD knows that JJ is getting the handoff after Spears. Perhaps Payton and BP should put a few wrinkles into this play.

1. Hand the ball off to Spears instead of JJ. It seems like Spears doesn't have any trouble crossing LOS and getting at least 1 yd.

2. Have a TE line up next to Flo, fake a block then go out on a pattern. Bledsoe fake handoff to JJ who trails Spears and I bet the TE is WIDE OPEN!

Oh....I keep seeing this play from Miami and Denver that should be in our playbook as well.

Entire OL pull to one (let say R) side and QB fake hand off to the same side (R). The tackle on the opposit side (L) slide out to lead block and QB toss to the other side (L) after the fake hand off (R). This is almost like a naked bootleg but for a RB. Miami and Denver have been very successful. I think with JJ and Tyson's speed, it will work for us as well.

Didnt Spears come in on that Polite TD pass yesterday? If so...I think it was a good call. =)

i wouldnt mind handing off to spears, jj hasnt been good at all in short yardage. that or even a play action and pass to spears in the end zone would be sweet.

Note to Reid and company. Yes even I was faked out by that pass to Polite. I was all setup for us to run.

Dont feel bad. The played worked as it was intended. :lmao2:

Yeah he came in on the Polite pass, but he also came in on the 4th and 1 at the goal line that the Eagles stuffed the crap out of

but, the Polite play was AFTER the first one, and so Payton must have learned in-game to not hand it to Julius

what a great freakin game. I'm still pumped

We aren't sure how Spears is with the ball in his hands, and sorry but I am not comfortable with our DE running the ball on the goalline. I'd rather line up Campbell and hand it off to him or line up ATrain at the FB position and give it to him.

I am still waiting on the WR screen to Crayton then he steps back and throws it down the field. They ran it against Oakland but they had Keyshawn throwing and JJ catching, I was wondering why Crayton wasn't the one throwing even though it wouldn't have mattered because JJ was covered. I'd like to see Crayton throw it to Key, Glenn or Witten.

ya crayton would have been the much better candidate for that throw. i just think we should do something about our short yardage. JJ hasnt been good, bp used a qb sneak a few times which worked extremely well. i just wish jj was able to get some of these short yardage runs because its worrying me.

No reason not to sneak it on 4th and 1 or inches, Bledsoe is 6'5 and should be able to get it everytime. I wish we had a FB that could run the ball that way we could run that fake to the fb and toss it to the RB.

I think Spears has done a good job in his appearances as FB, blasting his man. IT has been problems with other linemen that have lead to troubles.

Good call on the Crayton-to-pass plan. I expect the WR screen may show up a couple of times, to set that up as a 'Quick 6' killer play.

Crayton passing is better than Key passing and the same would go for the end around. Don't give it to Key on a reverse.

I couldn't stop laughing when Key ran that play for 3 yards. Put a speedster in that spot, anyone but Key. :laugh2:

We're just using that as a setup play for the future IMO. Don't forget Spears was an all american TE before going to LSU. There's going to come a time this season (probably during the playoffs) that we will roll out Drew and he will hit Spears in the endzone. Just my opinion.

I just noted the same thing before I read your message. At least we're on the same page. :)

Why not hand off to Witten as the full back. That dude is a beast. The play he had last week against Oak. was incredible. He was dragging defenders all over the field.
