But it's easier just to scapegoat Mike McCarthy.

Yeah I just dont understand it (Well sort of but not really). I really hope Mingo turns out to be a stud WR. I'm completely fine with people wanting to be stubborn with him based on his measurables. I'm not big on the excuses game though. Nothing wrong with saying a player has underperformed and needs to get better instead of pointing the finger at the guy no longer in the building.

It's only year 3. He isn't terrible. If he was terrible he wouldn't be on any NFL roster.

Well, you know, I consistently see posters missing on player evaluations using their own eyes. Not surprising, as it takes a trained eye to really see what a player is or will be. For example, what happened to ferocious pass rusher Vilami Fehoko? Eyes said he'd be really good. What happened? Well, the scouts told him he lacked the lateral agility. And BLAM, he got here and lacked the lateral agility.

The scouts watch tape specifically looking for things that point toward success. Fan eyes just count TDs.

It's not about basing your perception on your eyes, it's more related to spewing whatever you think you see.

True…and Mingo was open a lot but Rush couldn’t get the ball to him. I think Mingo will beat out Tolbert.

He was? Who's saying that? Where and how was he open? Did the opposing D give him certain routes because Rush lacked the arm strength to get him the ball anyway?

I completely agree that we need to take a wait and see approach with Mingo. How he does in camp this year is going to be up to him.

What I don't understand is blaming MM for the lack of production. Is it MMs fault that he came over in a mid season trade? Is it his fault there was a backup QB and make shift OL when he got here? Also wasn't Brian Schottenheimer not OC last year?

Since coming from Carolina Mingo received similar snaps to Turpin, Flournoy, and Brooks. These guys all had the same QB, OL situation, etc. The only difference is yes Mingo did come over mid season and its possible he was a little slow picking things up....We still have the issue however of him not doing well in Carolina either. Granted Carolina is not exactly an offensive powerhouse the last couple of years, he still was once again outplayed by his peers. Xavier Leggette, David Moore, Adam Thielen, Jalen Coker, and Dionte Johnson had all pretty much passed him on the depth chart leading to Mingo being traded in the first place. Not exactly fighting off all pro players for time on the field, and these guys were all outperforming Mingo with the same QBs (Young/Dalton) throwing them footballs.

With Carolina Mingo had 197 passing snaps, 27 targets, 12 catches, 121 yards.....Eerily similar poor production to his time in Dallas.

Hes still just 24 so you dont give up on him yet, but I struggle to see how this was a coaching issue. Going into year 3 I think either things have clicked for him or it could be time to move on if some of these other young guys are showing to have higher ceilings.

Especially considering MM is a noted O guy who is known for getting WRs nice numbers.

If there was one thing Rush did well it was find the open man and get him the football. With a below average NFL arm the only way he is still in the league is because he can find guys when they get open.

He has that Bradyesque anticipation, the stuff you can't teach. If he had even a decent arm he'd be top 10. He needs to marry a college softball player, like a 3rd baseman w/ a cannon.

It wasn't always pretty, or a rocket...but he did indeed get people the ball, safely, in stride.

First of all it works both ways. Fans for and against certain players.

Second, the fans did not draft these players, not certainly based on the eye test.

Fans only comment on them after they are drafted. And have their opinions. But positive opinions are met with disdain from the nothing is ever good crowd.

In just one game Rush found a way to throw him a pass 12 feet in the air and in the dirt 3 yards in front him him. Counted as 2 targets even though there was zero chance of him catching either one.

They do not want to go by facts. They just want to throw them out the window, to justify their non factual opinions.

When you’re clinging to the hope the Cowboys are actually good, fans have to conjure up a reason for the team’s poor performance last season. Most of the players are back. Last season’s offensive coordinator is now head coach. Blaming McCarthy is expedient. Fans thinking with any degree of rationality isn’t required until September, at the earliest.

Less than a year after being acquired via trade from the Carolina Panthers, Jonathan Mingo could already find himself fighting for a job with the Dallas Cowboys in 2025. Despite the Cowboys decision to invest a 2024 fourth-round draft pick to acquire Mingo’s services, nothing is guaranteed for the 24-year-old receiver heading into his third season in the NFL.

The Cowboys were betting they could help further develop Mingo’s talent that made him a second-round pick ( 39th overall) in the 2023 NFL Draft. Sadly, the small sample size we witnessed from him last season was a far cry from a ringing endorsement. In eight total games with one start in Dallas last year, Mingo only caught five of 16 passes for 46 receiving yards. That was with Dak Prescott sidelined with a season-ending hamstring injury, however, even with a backup QB his production left much to be desired.

If Mingo’s lack of production wasn’t enough, the trade to acquire George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers further complicated things. At best, that lands him fifth on the depth chart right now with a slim chance to climb in the higher due to the players ahead of him. There’s no way Mingo will unseat either CeeDee Lamb or George Pickens at the top of the depth chart, and it’s also highly unlikely he’s capable of doing that with either Jalen Tolbert or KaVontae Turpin either. That firmly puts him on the bubble competing for a roster spot.

stupid trade to begin with. now we are stuck with him just like Lance. dump him for an 8th round pick and move on.
