Not bad at all. Tramain Thomas is way underrated.

Yeh, this is pretty good.

Didn't Janoris Jenkins get kicked out of Florida for drug charges or something like that? Doesn't fit the mold of player we're looking for.

yes but I read a scouting report on him - and was so impressed by it

it changed my mind

I not sure if Jerry takes a chance with him or not

but in that report compared him D Revis

Jerry would but Garrett wouldn't

I like it. I'm a big believer in taking players at impact positions in round one. QB, WR, OT, CB, Pash rusher whether it be OLB/DE or DT. That's it. That's all there should be. I would hard pressed to ever take a TE, RB, Safety, ILB or interior offensive lineman in round 1 ever.

I'd take a top TE, RB, S, or ILB in 1 all day every day.

Just because you don't see a player running down the field with the ball in his hands or smashing the QB doesn't mean he doesn't have a significant effect on the game. Added to what we have on the OL, I believe C of Konz's quality would mean a consistently clean pocket for Romo and huge holes for Murray. Makes the entire team better.

This is where you have to rely on your board, because in my book, the best center in the draft will have much greater impact than the fourth best QB, WR, OT, CB or DE.

Much of that will depend upon how Costa finishes the season.

I would think the Cowboys will give out some "clues" on if the position needs to be upgraded or not, after the season concludes.

I will almost bet the first two picks will be defense. Brooking/James will be gone and maybe Spencer, 3-4 defense needs LB's. Newman is old and getting paid a ton, more likely he is gone.

We drafted Smith, Nagy, Arkin last year. We have Costa who needs improvement but is not the worst center in the league. I'm sure the thought is, if Murray started all 16 games and Austin were not injured most of the season this offense would be much better and it's still more than decent.

Defense will be getting the most picks next year.

I don't know about that. Defense might get the late or mid picks for depth but where do we need starters.
Say we resign Spencer, add a vet backup ILB, resign Elam and Sensy, then CB is the only area I think we need to address early.
I don't think any 3-4 OLB in this draft could come in and start day one and play better overall than Spencer.

If Costa isn't the worse then he isn't far behind.

I don't doubt any of that. I just hate to see the team settle for Costa because "he's not the worst center in the league." I'm assuming we'll be picking around #27 or so, and at that point, IMHO, Konz is a much better player than Brandon Jenkins or Stephon Gilmore.

You don't know that Konz will be a pro bowl C right off the bat. You don't know that about any of these players. I'd be fine with Costa and draft pick other than a first rounder. Thinking long, obviously these are all just opinions, but I wouldn't invest large amounts of cap space or resources (1st rounders) on those positions. I believe the first round and your big contracts should only be for QB, WR, OT, Pass Rusher (OLB/DE) or Corner. I think it tends to not pan out when you do otherwise. For me it would have to be absolutely ridiculous value on your board to not to.

The Cowboys don't seem to agree, though.

On that 2010 draft board Iupati and Pouncey both had first round grades from us. Iupati was ranked #10 overall.

It is such a shame that we so rarely pick in the top 12. We seem to get a very good player almost every time. In recent memory over the last 15 years or so we have picked that high 4 times:

Greg Ellis
Terrence Newman
Demarcus Ware
Tyron Smith

So in that group we have a good DE who made one Pro Bowl, a good CB who made two Pro Bowls, a HOF player and a franchise type LT.

I prefer not picking in the top 12, but that's just me :laugh2:

You left Roy Williams off that list...when he first came into the league, he was all-world for a while.

Yes, you're right. He was very good for awhile and then lost his confidence and stopped hitting people. The league kind of changed while he was here and he couldn't adapt.

It is hard to call the pick a bad one when the guy went to about 5 Pro Bowls, though. Part of what hurts him in comparisons is that Ed Reed was picked that same year and I think Polamolu went in the next draft and then came Sean Taylor.
