Since Tomlin will be the new coach for the Steelers and he will definitely come in with a new scheme...can we now sign Lebeau as the DC to take over. He obviously has experience and knows the scheme probably better than Parcells. He is a mutual friend of Bobby Knight and Parcells and with Dan Hennings as the OC, this team can now have some quality coaches on thier staff. I wouldnt mind if he hired Alex Gibbs as the offensive line coach to better the blocking patterns for a running game that needs an upgrade. I still believe this was a team with talent but was not performing to its potential and with a new class of coaches and a couple of FA signing, i.e offensive lineman for Rivera and a passer rusher and safety, then we could see some marked improvement.

What do you think?

Except for the Alex Gibbs hire I'm with you. We don't have his type of linemen and I'd hate to see his chop blocking style in Dallas.

Im not sure why everyone wants
Henning to come in and call our plays he just got ousted for his inability to do so in Carolina.
Lebeau on the other hand would be a great hire if we stay with the 3-4. He knows the defense better than anyone not named Belichek and would have our boys ready to play.

Henning also helped get the Panthers to the SB running a balanced offense.

Henning also didn't have Delhomme and Smith for a big part of the season.

I think our DC will be Pepper Johnson. LeBeau is still under contract with the Steelers, he has to be bought out or fired before we could even interview him.

Yea I think that Hennings got a bad rap because he was able to get alot out of a very overachieving team in the past. Smith was great but Delhomme was average and Foster and Davis were overrated. He got them to the SB and the NFC Championship game without a great offensive team. This season they had alot of injuries on the line and Delhomme was less than average this season. Hennings would have a young quarterback with three good receivers (more than carolina) and a running game (didnt have in Carolina). Deangelo was key to that offense because Foster and Davis as RB couldnt average four yards to save their life!

I think Henning would be great here and I think LeBeau would be superb. Dont know if Tomlin would be like Parcells and not rock the boat by changing coordinators but with Lebeau being 69 I think its possible and I think BP will bring him in for a season or two.

:hammer:

This all makes too much sense to actually happen :D

Again, it would have to be a hire made with the promise that the incoming DC would get the highest consideration to take over the HC position when Parcells leaves. Without that, we will not get a big name DC. Besides, like many have said, Parcells is the "real" DC here. I just don't think he wants anything other than a puppet as our so-called DC.

A lot of so called Puppets have done well under Parcells and many of them talk highly of him. I'm not sure where this mindset comes from but I don't see Parcells assistant coaches as puppets. JMO

My point is this, there will be no way a big name DC will be brought in here. Parcells IS the DC, and he will not bring in anyone who might "step on the toes" of what he is trying to do.

I disagree with that. I think BP would like to have more competent people on his staff and likes to have the different opinions. Others have him as a dictator but the only evidence for that is that he does not let his assistants talk to the media.

Or he will bring in a guy who runs the type of defense he wants I would also expect that he will want an OC who runs the style of offense he wants. This does not make these coaches puppets

Why would Tomlin change the 3-4 scheme that has worked well for the Steelers???

He wont. He was brought there to be head coach, not the DC. He might go with the 3-4 but change it after a couple of years or when Lebeau retired. Kind of like what BP did with 4-3.

BUT... i would love to have him and his zone blitzing here.. Not sure if we have the personnel though. Ill point out the obvious and say we need more pressure from LB's.

He might because he's a 4-3 guy. It happens all the time.

Dick LeBeau is being retained as DC in Pittsburgh...

I wouldn't mind bringing in Mike Tice as our OC. He was a heck of an OL coach before being head man in Minnesota. I think he's in Jacksonville now. He would be a good guy to get if we could IMO.
