Xavier Woods
Much like Awuzie and Lewis, Xavier Woods has garnered a lot of hype. The sixth-round selection was considered a big steal for the Cowboys this past April, and the Louisiana Tech product has impressed at times throughout this season. Unfortunately, the staff has opted to go with Jeff Heath over Woods at safety.

Woods only saw 23 snaps on Sunday. Since playing 34 defensive snaps in week two and 46 in week three, Woods’ snaps on defense has begun to decline. Last week, Woods only played 16 snaps on the defensive side of the ball. For whatever reason, Woods isn’t on the field as much as his talent warrants him to be.

Woods totaled one total tackle against the Packers. He has the talent to be a strong contributor for the Cowboys, so here’s hoping the coaching staff allows him to grow into a larger role after the bye week.

Awuzie took some of the snaps Woods had been playing.

23 plays and 1 tackle from a safety isn't going to convince that he should play more.

Heath is going to be your new Nick Hayden.

The guy Marinelli thinks he just can't compete without.

So they are going to do that backwards dual role thing with awuzie?

But Heath lays the wood once a game while whiffing on every other tackle and chasing complete passes from 10 yards away.

The best one was always "bubububububububububut he led the team in INT's last year and has always produced with limited opportunity".

#38 over a true play making Safety with loads of potential... This is turning into a real clown show.

As someone noted elsewhere, are they trying to play the yo-yo game with Awuzie like they did with Jones?

Heath is progress stopper...

RM is a project stopper.

JG is a progress stopper.

It seems to me players show real potential as rookies and then in the years beyond they regress.

Why do they regress? It’s poor coaching...

I really, really, really hope Marinelli retires after this year.

Either way, we need a new DC. Badly.

coming to realize that also. This bend but don't break scheme isn't getting it. And its not just missing Lee. The line is better but the whole back end philosophy needs real retooling

i dont think so, all the coaches and owner say he will play more.
do we know if he is uninjured in some even small way? i dont like to criticize these professionals without all the information.
i have said i want to see more Woods and i think he is the future with Chido and Lewis.
there must be a reason.
and Taco played far less, Marinelli does pull players that dont play as well. Jaylon was pulled as well
maybe he really felt after listening to his coaches that Heath was more confident in the plan or something
btw Heath is a 4.4 guy, bigger and one of the faster guys on the team.
he just doesnt show the instincts sadly

It seems like the interior line has regressed vs. '16.

Heath is as effective as planted stick in a field. Seems like he is always showing up after a completion as if he is curious about what transpired there.

No DC will be able to come in here and do anything with this sad talent. Blame M all you want.

I see the opposite. They've been competitive with an extreme amount of inexperience and limited talent.

Rookie CB
2nd Year CB
Heath at Safety
Jaylon at LB
Woods and Frazier playing a lot of snaps this season.
Awuzie playing when healthy.
Durant was an after-thought to re-sign.
Last year's starters Lee and Hitchens yet to play together.
Price replacing Paea due to bad knee.
DE Moore a reclaimation project.
DL Irving and Collins very young.
Taco a rookie.
Crawford playing through injury again.
Scandrick a shell of himself ever since the blown out knee. His movement skills are visibly limited.

That leaves DLaw as the one uninjured veteran on defense.
