I remember him ... and as well as he played so early on ... and it was phenomenal ... Romo is playing better.

Magic would play mediocre for 3 quarters, then turn it on in the 4th. Actually he only did it for like 3 games.

Magic's best days were nowhere near as good as what Romo's "average" days are now.

Favre replaced him 1992 after he went down. Don't compare the golden boy to a flash in the pan, that is the equivalent of witchcraft to we Cowboy Puritans and this is Thanksgiving.

He had an amazing first year ... but again not comparable to what Romo's doing.

Mr. Negativity (or 'Skins fan pretending to be a 'Boys fan) strikes again. I see nothing classy about associating someone to someone who's career ended because of a torn rotator cuff. Pathetic.

pea shooter is just a pessimistic poor soul who can find no joy in life except for criticising the Boys. Don't get mad at him- just feel sorry for him.

Majkowski wasn't playing nearly as well as Romo is right now. Even in his great season, he still threw for 20 INT's and only completed 58% of his passes.

That's silly. I'd say they're very comparable. Tony doesn't even have a full year of games under his belt. Wiki:

Nicknamed The Majik Man, Majkowski broke out during the 1989 season. He was given the starting job and Randy Wright was released. Majkowski had one of the finest seasons in Packers history. He completed 353 passes in 599 attempts. His 4,318 passing yards set a team record, and led the NFL. He also threw for 27 touchdowns. Majkowski capped the season with his being selected to the Pro Bowl.

Not too shabby.

I lived in Wisconsin and was subjected to 16 Packer games. He was much more consistent than you think.

Um, Romo hasn't completed a full year yet.

I realize that but you are the one comparing and we can only go by what he's done so far.

Chances are he'll come back down to earth a little ... but as for now what he's doing is almost unprecedented.

Warner comes closest in my mind to mimicking the early success Romo's having.

Shut it. After 3,500 posts, If I hear one more crack about being a closet Skins fan I'm filing an abuse report. I've reached the limit with cretins you. Guess you weren't here late last night when I was praising the team left and right. Are you seriously so dense that you can't see I was comparing Romo to Majkowski pre-injury? As a guy who came out of nowhere and lifted a city? Did I ever imply that they would share the same long-term fate? What a willfully stupid contribution on your part.

I don't think the com parison was intended as an insult at all

I was only 6 at the time, so take it for what it's worth. The Packers had sucked for a long time (Most of the 80s) and were generally considered one of the worst franchises in the NFL. In 1989, Don Majkowski set the league on fire and almost won the division. They would have qualified for the playoffs under today's format (five team qualified back then) in a conference that had Parcells' Giants Gibbs' Commanders, Ryan's Eagles, Ditka's Bears, Seifert's Niners. The Rams and Vikings were no slouch either.

Majkowski was never the same after his rotator cuff injury and soon enough Brett Favre emerged and Don was relegated to obscurity.

I think Tony will have more success than Don did barring injury (in part due to having a better team around him)

Majkowski threw 9 picks in his first five starts in 1989.

Warner is the only comparison to Romo that I can think of. Maybe Bulger, but his rating wasn't as high as Romo's; neither was Marino's or Roethlisberger's.

And Brady's rating in his first five starts was in the 80's.

Of course I wasn't. I was simply trying to think of another QB who sat on the bench for a number of years before lighting a fire under his team. This does not mean they will have the same career trajectories (duh). Apparently, if you compare Tony to anyone short of Johnny Unitas, you're somehow "slighting" or "insulting" him. Jeez.
