I know that this has been discussed in here but a couple of the variables have changed. First of all we all know Wade needs to go. Steve Spagnuolo is looking to become a head coach. Since he follows in the bloodlines of the Philly's Jimmy Johnson this move Will help us against the Eagles and the Giants. 2nd we don't have the linebackers for the 34. Besides Ware and James
all we have is Ellis and Spencer who are better better 43 ends. Burnett is too small and a free agent. Carpenter is Carpenter and Zack Thomas is small, old and a Free Agent. This leaves Carlos Polk, Steve Octavien, Justin Rodgers. 3rd Chris Canty our best 34 DE is a free agent and will get a big contract from someone else. 4th Ratliff is best suited to be a 43 tackle with Spears. This will will give us a rotation of Ware, Spencer, Hatcher and Ellis on the ends.

Until Phillips goes, there is no reason to drop the 3-4.

He is not going anywhere.

End of discussion.

I would rather bring in an experienced Head Coach than bring in another Top Coordinator and hope their coordinating skills translate into good coaching.

This team needs someone who demands attention when they enter a room.

Spags might be a good head coach but I don't want to risk it.

Yup...three of the four remaining teams employ a 3-4 or some version of it. Bring in a monster NT and another MLB and this defense will take another step forward.

We have most of the right pieces to run the Phillips 3-4.

This obsession people have with the 4-3 is baffling to me. Pass rushers are easier to find for the scheme. Undersized pass rushers are plentiful in the college ranks. 4-3 rushers are harder to find. I guess the choices and money we went through drafting Greg Ellis, Kavika Pittman, Ebenezer Ekuban and Shante Carver did not register with some people.

Going to a four-down alignment means we need at least two more quality linemen (and several reserves) and in a hurry.

This is a terrible idea. We were leading the league in sacks, Ware notched 20 from a standup position, and our entire defense is built to run the 3-4, and people mysteriously want to change this immediately.

The scheme is irrelevant, people. I mean come on already - quit trying to put band-aids on cannonball wounds. Either the players aren't executing correctly or our coaches aren't doing what they need to get the players to execute correctly. But it's not a scheme deal - it's a desire deal.

Keep dreaming about a defense that trots out Kevin Burnett, Bradie James and Bobby Carpenter as their starting 3 LBs next year. What a nightmare...

Dallas was the league leader in sacks we don't need to change the defense. I like the 4-3 but there is nothing magic about it, Dallas has been working in the 3-4 for a while and should continue playing it.

I actually like the 34 and would rather stay with it. We've got most of the pieces in place. A big time, huge, NT and another solid ILB and this defense would be ready to take yet another step in the right direction.

We should change the 3-4 because the top two defenses, (Steelers / Ravens) 4 of the top 10 (Cowboys / New England) and 5 of the top 15 run a variation of the 3-4. (Miami)
