We all have witnessed this defense struggle to get off the field in third and longs throughout the season thus far. More consistent pressure would certainly help, but better coverage would as well. The time has come for Jabril Cox to make an impact. Lve has been used more as a run down player, why not allow Cox to play in the nickel or even in some sub-packages to take advantage of his skillset in coverage.

Really believe this defense has an opportunity to take the next level if the likes of the Cox/Joseph earn a bigger role within this group. They have the talent, just need the experience on this level.

And red zone ineptitude.

Have we been that bad? I remember a long one vs the chargers. Have there been many others?

The push off vs the Bucs can’t count.

I think we lead the league in over 20 yard pass plays given up. We’ve just had so many timely TO’s that it doesn’t feel that way.

3rd down defense has given up 37% which is overall not bad. You always want to strive for more but Cowboys have done a decent job in getting off the field on 3rd.

Bla.........last game they had a few lucky 3rd down conversions by the skin of their teeth. There was no way they were going to sustain it and they didnt. Quinn started dialing up the pressure with Parsons blitzing up the middle and thats where the turnovers started.

This is EXACTLY why Parsons remains at MLBer so they can move him all over the place.

In the past 2 games we have been almost perfect in the red zone.

I thought I read somewhere that the Cowboys have scored 11 TD's in the last 13 red zone trips.

They need to keep that going

This is true. Outside of the Tampa Bay game were Dallas only hit (1 of 4) 25% in redzone they have been damn near perfect in the redzone.

Wow I didn’t know that. This was one of the biggest offensive concerns coming into this season. Way to go Moore, Dak and team.

That number doesn't seem bad, it's those 3rd and over 10 yard conversions that's maddening.

Not thrilled with giving up any 3rd downs. I fully agree 3rd and long I expect us to get off the field. 37% puts us at 11th overall and it needs to improve but not bad. I continue to believe that this defense will continue to get better and I think the confidence level of defensive players as they continue to learn what Quinn wants will improve. Also add getting players back from IR including Lawrence should only make this defense better as we get deeper into the season.

I agree, still learning a new scheme and a few starters will be returning at some point.

Cowboys gave up 3 or 4 3rd & over 10 downs for 1st downs against the Panthers during the 1st Half, hence why the Chargers were up 14-13 at the Half. Not good.

Our defense's alleged problem with 3rd and long is a separate issue from the red zone issue. They should be addressed in separate threads. I haven't noticed a problem with our D not being able to get off the field on 3rd down most of the time, not this season.

and yet for the game Carolina was 4-13 on 3rd down. I'm not saying you do not strive to get better or we should be satisfied what I am saying is we are not that bad right now. I fully expect every game you will walk away feeling we need to do better but when you look at the overall picture it was not bad.

the post is specifically talking about 3 and long.

I don't think 3rd down is nearly as much an issue as getting gashed on 1st and 2nd downs.

Please!!!!!!

Parsons needs to be on the line with Gregory on every third and long. It was blasphemous when they went away from that in the last game.

You made mentioned previous threat that we’re still in an early process of learning a new scheme and there’s growing pains as we go along.

I tend to think that the first and most biggest key is beginning to get the key guys back like Neal, Gallimore, Joseph, Anae, Armstrong, Watkins, Wilson, etc.

- I still see vet Keau Neal starting and on field for much of the time, followed by LVE, who could probably flex in both LB roles (OLB/MLB) .. I truly believe
those two vet LBs will get the bulk of LB play to go along with Parsons.
But it gets thin after that, with only Gifford as the 3rd middle LB..and Cox as the other OLB.

- As far as rookie LB Cox is concerned, has not had the chance (reps) to learn and perfect and fine tune his coverage skills at the NFL level yet.
Much less overall LB in reg defense period.
And that’s important because for a defense that is already giving up too many chunk yards and big plays, blowing assignments per inexperience
is sumthin’ we cannot afford.

- But we have to find him ways and spots where he can gain some kinda game experience where he’s not as exposed at this time.
He’s been limited to special teams, but maybe coaches can setup package(s) to get gradually implemented to bigger roles.
Don’t wanna toss him into the immediate fire if he doesn’t have to be.
