Draft Blog:
This year in the 2007 NFL Draft there is a monster defensive tackle named Walter Thomas from Northwest Mississippi Community College (transferred from Oklahoma State. Thomas weighed 6' 5" 370 (height is incorrect - he's actually appx 6'3 7/8") pounds at the Texas vs. Nation All-Star game, and can reportedly run in 4.8-4.9 range. He was heavily recruited, but left Oklahoma State early in his college career. Thomas Played in only two games this year for his tiny Community College, but completely and utterly dominated those games with 16 tackles, 9 tackles for loss and 4 sacks. Thomas is only a junior, so this young man has a lot of upside. He has been all the talk recently among NFL Scouts, and I have even heard some say he could be drafted as early as the 5th round in the 2007 NFL Draft.

Yahoo:
*NW Mississippi CC junior defensive tackle Walter Thomas plans to hold his pro day at Mississippi State, according to his head coach Randy Pippin, but is also in the process of soliciting the chance to work out at one of the three pro days held in the Houston Metro area (Houston, Rice or Texas Southern). The 6-3 1/4, 370-pound interior defender has drawn a lot of attention since initially hitting the scene at the Texas vs. the Nation All-Star Challenge last month. He showed very good quickness off the ball and balance for a player of his size and was much better in the 1-on-1 drills as his brute strength and raw skills jumped out at scouts. His position coach that week, Lance Botkin, said that Thomas has very good upside if he can continue to learn and make better use of his hands to shed blocks and drop down to the 350-355 pound range.

DraftDaddy Texas vs. Nation coverage:
- Walter Thomas (DT - NW Mississippi CC) also had his daily share of astounding plays, absolutely destroying Jonathan Palmer (OL-Auburn) on one confrontation - Palmer has been one of the most outstanding OL all week.
- Walter Thomas (NW Mississippi JC) still stood out when he did everything right. I interviewed Walter - he's a very shy kid who probably has no idea how much buzz he is creating.
- Walter Thomas, DT, NW Mississippi CC - Unstoppable when he got a good push, showed a good spin move (!) and was astoundingly nimble for a guy his size (think Gabe Watson at his best during Senior Bowl practices last year - dancing bear). Seemed to tire, and then get second wind. Didn't excel on every play but was dominant when he did. Got lots of individual coaching and encouragement. Talk of the scouts in the stands. Jags practically drooling on him.

Also

One of the more fascinating prospects as the draft process goes forward could be NorthwesternOklahomaState's surprisingly nimble 6' 3", 345 pound defensive tackle LaRon Harris.
Harris, a former high school All-American and transfer from the University of Tennessee, reportedly put on a nice show at a recent workout -- ran a 1.7 10 yard shuttle, did 33 bench press reps, displayed a 33.5" vertical leap and ended it all with a back flip at 345 pounds.
The knock on him at Tennessee was he was not a real hard worker, but he seems to have become more focused as he's gotten older and he's very athletic for his size. We think this player could factor into the nose tackle mix on draft day, if these stats are true. The "Planet Theory" (only so many very athletic big or tall men on the Planet) always leads to a bumper crop of surprising picks of big athletes based purely on potential and Harris "might" fit that mold

Sounds to good to be true those stats dont last that long in the draft, but if they are I vote pick him up let him learn from one of the best in Fergie then unleash him on unsuspecting centres in the NFL. He sounds like a monster sign me up as a fan.

I'd love to get Alan Branch from Mich but he will be long gone by the time we pick. I do agree though that finding a NT should be on our list.

Unlike Parcells, WP likes monster NTs. If there's a guy out there Wade wants, he'll get him.

The point exactly i dont see a 30 something NT doing a backflip do you? granted hes experienced and has played hard but hes getting too old and couldnt handle NT all season in Phillips faster D anyway well draft a NT mid rounds hopefully

Yeah, he is more like an Umpa Lumpa.

Just what I was thinking.

Wade has had monster nose tackles in his defenses, so size does matter to him.

Ferguson is a fine player, but as nose tackles go, he's a bit undersized.

I expect the Cowboys to "beef-up" at that position for both depth and for the future.

Walter Thomas sounds like a physical marvel.

A year of NFL experience behind Ferguson could turn him into a beast!

Sorry....ZERO interest in this kid unless it's the end of the draft or free agency.

There's a reason he not only didn't play big time college football, but also only played two games this year in JUCO.

When a kid's coach says he still needs to lose "down to 350" I'm not interested...he has no real playing experience, so we don't know if he's just an idiot or if he's a big baby.

No Thanks.

Good post, burma... We definitely need a NT, and there don't seem to be many this year at the bigger schools.

Getting one of these huge guys would be great -- they kind of remind me of Keith Traylor, being from the small school -- but I hope they have a decent motor. There's some reason they aren't at an Oklahoma or a Tennessee dominating people, and we know it's not because they aren't physically capable.

Was originally at Oklahoma State. He was heavily recruited. Sounds like a 6th rd guy.

Ferguson played extremely well last year taking the majority of the snaps in a D that is FAR more taxing on the NT than is Wade's. If anything, this D benefits Ferguson. Now, I'm not saying he can't use a rest but anyone who thinks he's slowing down need to watch what he did last year.

the one thing a really big NT would give us is that Ferguson did a real good job- but he was definitly moved out on occasion. You put a real fire plug there and that is a lot harder. If you can get someone with some quickness as well as bulk, then you can get a real push up the middle- and prevent the pocket from forming on passing downs.

The guy you describe? Few and far between. There aren't so many Jamal Williams and Casey Hamptons out there.

Full Name : Fuimaono, Howie
College : UNLV
Height: 6'0
Weight : 335 lbs.
Position : Defensive Tackle
NFL Comp : Keith Traylor - Dolphins

BIO:
Howie is a big bodied run stuffer. He can single handedly clog the line of scrimmage making him a hot commodity for NFL defensive line coaches

Well, we certainly need another guy at NT IMO. I'm still very hopeful for the opportunity to take Soliai. To me, he's the best NT prospect in this draft. I guess we'll see.

back flip at 345 lbs.....are you kidding me?

But can he do a cart wheel?

That is the true measure of a football player!
