Ok, maybe I'm doing this wrong, BUT here's how I figured it out.

DAL: Wins out
MIN: Loses out

Both are division winners and Dallas has 3 conference losses while Minnesota has 4. Dallas would have the number 2 seed.

This actually isn't as unrealistic as it may seem...

Min plays @ Chi and vs. NYG. The Bears will be playing at home and want to beat the recently falling apart Vikings. The Giants will NEED to beat Minny to have a shot at making the playoffs and that game will be before ours so they won't know if they're out or not.

So Dallas fans this is what we need if I'm correct ....

Week 16:
Dallas OVER Washington
Giants OVER Pathers (or the Giants will have nothing to play for Week 17)
Bears OVER Vikings

Week 17:
Dallas OVER Philly
Giants OVER Vikings

If Arizona wins out they'll have the same record and same amount of conference losses as us, but if I'd assume based on strength of schedule we'd get it being they played the Rams twice and the Lions once.

Did I do this right? Are we actually in a situation where we could be a number 2 seed with a first round bye OR if we lose ONE game and the Giants win out with finish 7th and miss the playoffs?

What about the Cardinals?

It is so remote a possibility that it really isn't even worth hoping for.

Someone said Arizona would have to lose once in addition to Dallas winning out and Minny completely tanking.

I don't see how Minny loses to Chicago. Minnesotoa knows what's on the line and Chicago is a turnover machine. I think Minny bounces back

If they win out they tie with us (overall record and conference record). And I think our strength of schedule is better.

And I don't think it's that unlikely. The Vikings don't look great the last two weeks so its possible they could lose on the road to a Bears team that would love to upset them like Washington would like to do to us this week AND a Giants team who will need to win then pray we lose because their game is before ours.

I agree to a certain extent. It isn't highly probable, but I could conceive such a scenario.

1) Vikings would need to lose to the Bears, which I don't see happening, but who knows?

2) I could easily see the Vikings losing to a hungry Giants team in week 17.

3) Cards could lose to the Packers in week 17.

4) Cowboys would need to win out.

The one aspect that makes this an unprobable scenario is the Vikings losing to the Bears. But what do I know? I've seen the Raiders pull off a few upsets this year.

using that scenario, you also run the risk of losing out on the playoffs altogether

if we lose one game and giants win out, we do not even make the playoffs as a wildcard

For us to get the 2 we need this to happen

Dallas - 2 wins

Minnesota - 2 losses

Arizona - 1 loss

1st tiebreaker = head to head
2nd tiebreaker = conference record
3rd tiebreaker = record vs common opponents (Zona wins this one)

If these things happen, Tony and Wit can take another trip to Cabo during the bye week.

Well, it doesn't really involve the Giants winning out. It does involve the Giants beating the Vikings in week 17. The Giants game this weekend has no bearing on this scenario.

Strength of victory comes before strength of schedule. So the Cardinals would get the #2 seed ahead of Dallas. So Dallas needs to win out,Minnesota lose out and Arizona to lose at least once.

not true...

Dallas goes 1-1 (losing to Washington)
NYG go 2-0
Philly goes 0-2

NYG win NFC East
Dallas makes playoffs

I do not want a bye.
If we win 3 in a row, a bye will do more harm than good unless 1 of the following; Romo Austin Ware Jenkins Ratliff Witten are injured.

3 NFC East teams can make the playoffs if

Dallas goes 2-0
NYG go 2-0
Philly goes 0-2
Arizona beats GB

BTW, Dallas can still get the 2 seed in this scenario if Zona loses this week.

1 NO
2 Dallas
3 Minn
4 Zona
5 Philly
6 NYG

Personally, I don't want a bye in the playoffs. I would like to win the division and have a home field game, but I do not want a bye. I don't think a bye helps this team...we're not banged up and looking to get particular "key" players healthy over a bye.

We're an evolving, maturing team that does not need the distraction of a bye week right now. IF we make the playoffs as division winners or even as wild card, we'll be playing with confidence, and whether we win or lose the final game of the season vs. Philly, IF we make the playoffs, I'd just as soon keep the routine and play the very next week.

Personally, I think we'll win out...it certainly looked like we had the Eagles number last time, so I'm confident the defense won't give up the big play.

First...defeating the Commanders tomorrow...23-13.

The Bears beating the Vikings is less likely than us losing to the Skins. After this weekend talk about getting the #2 seed will come to end, because it won't be possible anymore.

Not wanting a bye week is straight up nuts.

No way I root for the Giants.
We win, they lose....we're in the playoffs...that comes before a long shot chance at 2nd seed.
