With the Cowboys being so busy in free agency, it’s put the equipment staff to work as well.
Always subject to change, but the Cowboys have issued jersey numbers for their six new players, led by Brandon Carr, who will wear No. 39 with the Cowboys. Carr becomes just the eighth player in franchise history to wear No. 39 and the first since fullback Lousaka Polite (2004-06).
In fact, the Cowboys had no players wearing No. 39 for the first 27 years of existence until running back E.J. Jones, a scab player in the 1987 players strike, wore the number for three games.
Another interesting note about the jersey numbers is for linebacker Dan Connor, who will wear No. 56, signaling an end for linebacker Bradie James. An unrestricted free agent, James played nine years with the Cowboys and remains the only player in franchise history to lead the team in tackles six straight seasons.
Here’s a list of the new jersey numbers:
25 – Brodney Poole, safety
39 – Brandon Carr, cornerback
18 – Kyle Orton, quarterback
47 – Lawrence Vickers, fullback
56 – Dan Connor, linebacker
73 – Mackenzy Bernadeau, guard
