Hackintosh?

If you have an Intel system, Hackintoshes are so easy. They've got almost the entire process as easy as clicking next a few times these days.

Heh, it's much much easier now, for sure. I remember spending a full day getting it to work a few years back.

Still, even being much easier the GTX 580 was a PITA to get working with acceleration.

Yeah. I have a 560 Ti and I had to add the device code in, but once I did that? It worked perfectly.

Yeah I had to do the same, but additionally had to create a new Power Management profile for it and had a few issues getting OpenCL working properly.

...Hackintosh up until a week ago.

I finally had it turned back to a PC system.

We run a Xeon processor, 8 GB RAM with a Solid State 1 TB hard drive. The set up was getting difficult to maintain consistency.

We would get kernel errors on boot up. We decided to let it go.

Good luck with yours. Hopefully it is a better results than ours.

Still have one, on my secondary machine with an 8800GTX and dual boot XP partition. Back when I installed it there was little to no support for RAID configurations. Has that changed? Rarely ever use OSX, because pretty much everything is easier and more practical (for me) in Windows.

If I could get it to "just work", I would probably build one. :laugh2:

How do you setup one of these?

Google hackintosh or OSx86 as it was originally known. Depending on what flavor of hacked OSX you want/need (which was dependent on preference and whether you had an AMD/Intel processor back when I installed it), download it, burn it, install it/create a virtual machine, etc. I started off with it installed on an external USB drive.

That's the site to look at right there. Almost everything is as easy as clicking next a few times. You MIGHT have to tweak a couple of things, but it's not difficult at all.

It will be difficult, relative to computer knowledge, if:

You don't know what a BIOS is.
You think every computer problem should be solved with a format.
You don't understand basic computing concepts.

If you've been around the block a few times and consider yourself a "Power User". Have no problems Googling Kernel Panic messages, reading, tinkering, tweaking, then you should be able to do it.

Installing it isn't all that difficult any more, with these all in one solutions and pre-made disks. However, getting OSX to play nice with your hardware and not have stability issues is more than just a matter of clicking next a few times. Basically, if you don't mind googling and reading you should be able to solve any issues that crop up.

For me, once I got the install process to start, I never had any issues that weren't fixed by just adding a device code and then running a couple of programs off that site I linked to.

However, I did have an issue getting the install process to start. I had to change my raid settings in the BIOS. I have Windows set up to use my SSD as a cache for my main HD. That stuff doesn't fly in OSX or at least it doesn't fly in OSX for Hackintoshes. I also have an Asus sound card that needed to be disabled and onboard audio to be enabled.

Luckily, I can save multiple configs in my BIOS. So, when I want to mess around with my OSX partition, I just load it and boot. Easy as pie.

Sounds good. I'm thinking about installing it on the computer the rest of the family uses.

Does 17 yrs experience count as knowing what a BIOS is? :D
