O-Line Concerns

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Garrett & Callahan know what they are doing.

On paper, I'm ok with Livings & Bernadeau manning the G's and rounding out the line with the winner of a competition between Nagy, Costa & Kowalski. Maybe Arkin will have progressed enough to compete at G too.

I have to assume that the coaches saw enough in the youngsters last year to feel comfortable about their long erm potential with Livings/Bern providing the near term bridge.

And certainly we had games last year where the O-line gave us what we needed to compete offensively. We'll be no worse this year. Likely better.

What I'm most concerned about is when we play those high-pressure teams (like Philly) and Romo ends up truly running for his life or getting hurt. Will year 2 of our rebuild be ready to handle that kind of heat? We need to be or we won't go far even if we make the playoffs.

those claiming Costa was doing better at the end of the season was not watching the Philthy or Giant games; he got owned there. And if your starting center is failing against your key division opponents you have a problem

I dont think(hope) we are done re-tooling the o-line yet. We will know how far some of the young guys have come with OTA's right around the corner and i am looking foward to hearing about the progress guys like Nagy , Killer and Arkin etc have made. But there is also the possibilty that down the road a team cuts a high priced vet like the chiefs did with Brian waters last year so im trying to be patient and trust the staff knows what we have well shall see can't wait .

did you guys see yesterdays presser....Jerry said he is planning on getting a big free agent lineman?

who is available...

There are still a couple of veteran Centers available in FA. I hope we grab one now that the draft is over and we didn't address it AT ALL! :bang2:

Garrett had last year to address the Center position and did so by releasing Gurode and allowing untested players to man the position so my confidence that he "knows what he is doing" there isn't very high.

Costa was a liability down the stretch and a former QB should know how important the Center position is so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he sees something I don't.

It's really the biggest concern I still have. I'm worried about those eagles and giants pass rushes. I'm really hoping between the young guys (Costa, Kowalski, Nagy, Arkin, Leary) that they are greatly improved and hungry for starting spots

I seriously doubt they would pick up a cast-off veteran Guard this year unless its for depth. I suspect the G jobs are Livings and Bernadeaus to lose and likely won't happen given the fresh investment in them. Center? I suppose if Costa/Nagy/Killer fail to impress this summer.

I think Dallas has chosen this Livings/Bern/Costa/Nagy/Arkin/Killer path because they are confident the youth will develop. I don't think they'll add progress stoppers unless they're really desperate.

I also suspect its why after the Claiborne pick Dallas didn't pick another O-lineman. DeCastro would've been another matter but why add another clone of what they already have - upside but inexperienced.
