I read it.

And I laughed when you said that Holland is solid.

Then when you said it would be ok to move Davis to OT I really started laughing.

If you don't understand that Holland is a solid backup and that Davis is a serviceable OT backup, I can't do much for you.

If they were clearly starting material at those positions, then they would be doing it.

I wish Dallas had more linemen to groom as replacements, but for guys who can step in now and be serviceable, I think we're OK.

Boils down to this I have no confidence in the O Line backups against the average NFL starter. I think there is a good chance the season comes down to it.

O Line replacements was a big reason the team missed the playoffs 08.

Brad Johnson played O-Line?

I see no concrete evidence of major improvement.

It doesn't have to be major. If Holland, Preston or even Procter could have just adequately replaced Kosier last year, things would have been better.

I love how some of you get all high and mighty on this board like you are football gods or something. Us "chicken littles" as you call us are going off of what we have seen from the Olinemen behind our starters. I have 2 eyes and Ive seen opposing linemen flying by Proctor, Holland, Free and McQuistan in every single preseason game. Sorry if I dont have confidence in guys I see get beat in the limited action they have got.

Uh, oh.... Looks like I "ruffled some feathers"... :muttley:

BTW... I'm not a football god (little "g")

It's funny to me that so many people on this board are ready to jump off a cliff everytime something does not satisfy them. Lets wait til something actually happens before we decide to jump.

I suppose 50 mg of Benicar is not enough... :laugh2:

Realistically, how many teams' backups would you have confidence in going against the average NFL starter.

Most teams' fans can name one or two backups they might trust, but that's about it.

I trust Holland based on how he played in Denver and how he played briefly for us last year. And I trust Davis based on his time at left tackle with Arizona that was judged more harshly than it should have been because of his draft status. ... That takes care of four of the five backup positions no matter what Free and McQuistan can do.

At center, I'll have to see more of Preston before I know if I trust him, but he does have starting experience.

Your eyes must be bad because until the last game nobody flew by Free. He allowed one pressure that was inconsequential, playing against starters even in game 3. This is why you get called Chicken Little. it's called hyperbole

look we have done a terrible job drafting and grooming o-line for years and it needs to get better were all agree with that, But some of you people have nothing better to do but cry about how we kept proctor instead of a ryan o'callahn type scrub you really need to stop. quit worrying about our backup's backup for crying out loud .

You need to go re-watch the games or get some glasses if you actually think Free has played well have faith in him to step in for Adams or Colombo. Sorry if you dont agree, but that is my opinion.

Did you miss the Steeler game? Then you know what happened when Proctor came in.

Procter also started the next week, and we dominated the Giants.

And this year, Procter could be the FOURTH option at left guard instead of the second (depending on how Preston does).

Consider that we never really had Montrae Holland last year, but he was solid in his brief appearance and has succeeded as a starter. So both guard spots are taken care of.

He only played one full game last year (Thanksgiving), and then got hurt in the 2nd quarter of the Steeler game, putting him on the shelf for the rest of the year. So when you say he "succeeded as a starter," that's highly misleading. He simply hasn't played enough snaps to let us know if he's reliable or not.

I didn't say he "succeeded as a starter" in Dallas. I said he was solid in his brief appearance (for Dallas) and HAS succeeded as a starter, which he did in Denver. (Sorry, if I didn't spell that out better.)

Now, Denver's scheme could have had a lot to do with his success there, but he played well while there before being made an example of for showing up out of condition.

i watched Free very closely, and he was at least a B. Now, he didn't play starters all the time, but he won a good 85% of his battles.

That is average and probably better than 75% of teams.

And BTW, that's what the coaches and the people who did play-by-play analysis saw, too

Free gets a lot of grief for last year's preseason, where he struggled in his first year under Houck, and apparently his mistakes in the final preseason far outweigh any good he did in the other three.

Am I completely comfortable with him? No, because we haven't seen enough to draw any real conclusions, although many seem to be doing that anyway.

Didn't really read my post, huh?

Or I guess I could have retorted: Didn't watch the first three preseason games, huh?

So the backup offesive lineman have looked good all preseason?

Put the pipe down.

Or maybe I should have retorted with a 'put down the glass of homerade'.

A homer would have said the backup line looked good in every preseason game. I readily admitted that they did not play well against Minnesota overall.

A blind cynic would say that the backup linemen did NOT look good in any of Dallas' preseason games.

You're certainly not a homer.
