O-line false starts

My keen sense of observation (yeah, right) showed me something that I had not noticed before. We sure seem to expect our o-linemen to hold their stances for a long time compaired to most teams. TR has to go through a lot of pre-snap reads which really makes it hard on these guys. They are expected to hold still for 10 to 15 seconds sometimes and that to me is just too long.

This problem shows up in other areas, also. Twice yesterday the Falcons were way offsides but were able to get back because we were not ready to snap the ball. This is also giving the defense an advantage when we use up all of the play clock. They know the snap has to come soon or the O will be flagged for delay.

I would sure like to see some quick counts thrown into the mix. I think this would really help the o-line to avoid the false starts and also catch the defenses before they are set.

This may not help Flo but I sure think the rest of the line would benefit.

They will have to learn to stop jumping offside, like it of not Romo has to make changes based on what he sees just like all the other QB's and that means the OL will have to remain in place when Tony is having to make adjustments.

I was thinking about that as well yesterday. I know Romo likes to get all his reads, but sometimes i'd like to see them break huddle, get set and snap it. I think it would keep defenses guessing a little more. However, do D lineman even watch the play clock at all?

Anyone know what "Omaha! Omaha!" means? I've heard Romo call this out several times...a lot yesterday. I'm almost sure i've heard Eli call out the same thing.

I agree.

We do it way to much. Just line up and run a play.

What we do is tough on Olinemen.

..."Kill, kill, kill". This is code for let's all wait a little longer until there is a false start penalty.

Chris Collinsworth was saying last night he thinks Eli uses the Omaha to tell the center when to snap the ball. I don't know if that's what Romo is doing though.

I would rather see Romo make adjustments that need to be made than to allow the defense to make a big play because we failed to adjust to how they were lining up. Our Oline knows what the snap count is there is no excuses for them jumping

Flo is fine at home. Again, the guy is deaf in one ear. Not making excuses. But it is what it is. As long as he's at home and crowd noise isn't a factor, he's a dominant beast. Osi, Peppers and now Abraham were pretty much shut out by Flo. Maybe only 3-5 LTs in the league are even capable of doing this without much help.

On the road, when crowd noise is a factor and Flo is unsure of his ability to hear the snap, he struggles. It's a completely different story.

Yes but is Garrett's offense too complicated requiring too many reads?

I keep hearing "we take what the defense gives us" but sometimes I would like to see us line up and dictate to the defense.

"This is what we are going to go. Try and stop us!"

Our offense is no more complicated than many teams and the QB's for them are required to look over the defense and made adjustment to put guys in the best position to make plays. Our Guys know what the snap count in the defense does not big edge for the Oline. Guys need to stay focused that is how you stop jumping off sides. Coming up and not making adjustment can lead to a lot of bad plays

In some situations, a pre-snap read can be a great help to the offense. There is no doubt about that. But how many reads are enough and how long should the QB have to make those reads? Knowing the snap count is all well and good but just how long should it take to get the reads and go?

It just seems to me that most teams get in and out of their stances much quicker than we do for what ever reason and if we could go quicker, it might provide these guys with some help in an area they are having problems with.

And there are times we do come up and just run the play especially in 2 min situations. For the most part though when running an offense Romo has responsibilities to make the proper adjustments to give his guys the best chance to make plays. We have no clue as to what the defense alignment we will see when breaking the huddle and if you know how they are lined up will put you at a disadvantage then it is foolish to not make the proper adjustments.

A good example was the long TD to Austin, when Romo came to the line and saw how the Falcons were loaded to one side he knew exactly where he would go with the ball and made the adjustment.

He said they did this all week long as they prepared for the Falcons so when he saw the formation he knew what he needed to do to get his WR in the right position to take advantage of it.

Like anyone I want to see the lineman stop with the offside’s I just think you do more harm than good if the QB is having to avoid making the proper adjustments for the sake of the Oline not jumping
