Cowboys' young blockers pick no-name over nickname
IRVING, Texas (AP) — Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick and Zack Martin are 23-year-old first-round draft picks anchoring the Dallas offensive line for NFL rushing leader DeMarco Murray.

That has to mean there's a nickname coming, right?

"I hope not," says Frederick. "I hate nicknames."

And there's the essence of a young group that could form the core of the Cowboys' offense for years. The closest thing to Hollywood in this bunch is that Smith looks the part of a comic book hero at 6-foot-5, 320 pounds and he grew up in the Los Angeles area.

Otherwise, these are men of few words — unless you get Frederick talking about math or engineering — who live by the manta that you're doing your job when nobody says your name.

"They are old-school offensive linemen," coach Jason Garrett said. "They don't say a whole lot. They go out and do their job. They do it the right way."...

They should revive another old tradition and form the "Zero Club".

For those too young to remember, the Zero Club was about players who didn't get the headlines and did not seek publicity. It consisted of Blaine Nye, Larry Cole and Pat Toomey. True, only one was an 0-lineman, but it was about anonimity

Larry Cole, intercepted a batted pass against Washington, ran it back for a touchdown. I remember Blaine Nye saying Larry was out of the club for gaining fame.

What I feared most , the hype is starting to get out of control.

A nick name after 6 games? Only the Cowboys media. Have they started asking questions about the SB yet?

and, as I recall if one expressed interest in joining the club, that "interest" disqualified them. Gotta love it!

Let the media hype them up all they want. Gangsta G has the team focused.

I don't like the hype. I like creep in' thru the backdoor. Since were keepin' it G

We'll be so stacked next season, they'll be able to kick into any bodies front door!

Maybe some of you are too young to remember, this is what the path looks and feels like in a Super Bowl year enjoy it as it never tends to stay around too long.

All three have started from the moment they walked into team headquarters, with the assumption always being the Cowboys were trying to make life easier on Romo. Jones said following the Frederick pick that the team was trying to buy their often-banged up quarterback an "extra half a second."

Turns out Murray is reaping the most benefits, with a chance Sunday against the New York Giants (3-3) to become the first back with seven straight 100-yard games to start the season and a nearly 250-yard lead in the rushing race with 785 yards. He also leads all running backs with six touchdowns, a big reason for Dallas' 5-1 start.

Like I mentioned before, Garrett's 3 year plan wasn't to run the ball. It was to protect Romo and to create an oline that can buy him time. Thats the main reason why this oline was built to begin with - and wasn't a part of Garrett's lets run the ball plan.

Murray is just benefiting from all of this. It took Linehan coming here to figure out that our strength lies in running the ball first and Callahan building an oline that can run the ball. The pieces was already here before Linehan got started. He just needed to put them all together and built around that to make it work.

People said this about the 92 Cowboys. They said they're a couple of years away. They were so wrong. I'm not saying we're going to the Super Bowl, but in this era you never know.

True. But I think their one good draft away from dynasty potential.

Well, in full disclosure mode, I've been thinking of Frederick, Martin, & Smith as "Snap, Crackle, & Pop" for a few weeks now. Snap! Crack! Pop!

I can appreciate what you guys are saying. However, I have a difficult time with even uttering the words "Super Bowl" let alone "Dynasty". However, playoffs are on the tip of my tongue.

Through six weeks, the Cowboys offensive line is talked about more than probably any position group on any team in the nfl...

We can utter it all we want. It changes nothing. I'm just enjoying this win streak. Let's keep it going, Cowboys.
