O-Line question...

Here is how I have been feeling about this o-line....

I've been hearing alot of talk about how this o-line has been protecting so well, BUT, I have also seen Romo have to evade more rushers than he should.

Also, look at yesterday's game for example....on running plays, it was US that we getting pushed backwards, and there has been all of this talk about how we are just massive on the o-line.

I'm just not convinced that this o-line is what it has been made out to be yet.

I'm one of those guys that believes you win and lose in the trenches on both sides of the ball, so that is my main concern on this team.

Anyone else have these types of concerns about the o-line?

Our pass protection has been about as good as you can expect from an NFL line. Sure, romo has to evade sometimes, but that's true of just about any good OL. Sometimes Manning and BRady do the same.

But I agree with you - I feel that our run blocking has been for the most part sub par. I stated this a couple of games back.

I posted something a few weeks ago, but it was about the difference in Julius Jones between 2004 and after that. The only difference is Sparano - he came on in (I think) 2005. I don't think we have been very good at run blocking since then. Serviceable maybe, but not 'good.'

No doubt, no offense to those that still want Bledsoe, but if we didn't have a QB that has such good pocket presence we would be strugglin'! Seems as if half of what we are successful on are broken plays that would not be happening without a mobile QB.

Yeah-I thought we ran block very well against the Giants-don't know why it took a dip since. Was it JJ's concussions?

Although to be fair in the Bears game, they played alot of 8 men in the box early on-Garrett adjusted to expose their over-rated sec, and we were able to loosen them up from there.

It seems the OL gets pushed back two yards on the first 4 or 5 running plays and that causes a lot of losses and no gains for both Jones and Barber.

They hold the LOS the next 4 or 5 and that becomes 3 or 4 yard carries.

The rest of the game they tend to get to the second level and we start getting some good runs.

I'd have them hitting the blocking sled during the National Anthem if I were Sparano.

Early on every team we have faced has thrown us 7, 8, or sometimes 9 in the box. They are preparing to stop the run, especially the Rams. They were playing 9 in the box on running plays, since their run defense is so horrible.

Whatever we're doing its working. Pass to open up the run is working well this year.

I've been happy with the O-Line.

From what I have seen, virtually every team has come out with the intention of stopping the run and making Romo beat them. There seem to be a lot of guys loading up on the run early in games, and that makes getting yards a little tougher.

But this O-Line holds their ground well, and eventually, they just maul opposing teams. And the pass protection has been solid. I know Romo makes the line look good too, but teams have been coming after him quite a bit. By and large, they aren't getting there. Those big guys up front deserve a lot of credit for that too.

The O-line played damn near perfectly on Sunday. The Rams aren't exactly known for their pass-rush, but I haven't seen a Cowboys line with that kind of protection in a while (if ever). Seriously, I don't think anyone even got close to touching Tony. He had huge pockets for what seemed like 5+ seconds every play. He could almost literally do cartwheels half the time.

I'm not so sure about that nowadays. He's bulked up so much from his Syracuse days that I think it's robbed him of his mobility. It's not Bledsoe bad but it's certainly nothing like when he was coming into the NFL...
