Is it a weakness or a strength for our team?

Heading into this last preseason game almost everyone was worried about our O-line depth with injuries to Kosier and Colombo. But even though the offense struggled in the game the O-line did a solid job of pass protecting.

Montrae Holland
the team has always said they were confident in Holland as our back-up guard. All he dose is prove it every time he gets on the field. Holland could probably start for some teams in the league. He is an adequate fill in, capable of starting a full season if the team was hit with a long term injury at guard.

Alex Barron has been dinged most of camp... but we know what we have in him. He is probably the best swing back-up tackle in the league. If he can cut down on the mental mistakes he has the potential to be a very solid starter.

I have been a fan of Robert Brewster from jump! The thing I like most about him is he learns from his mistakes and shows steady improvement each game. The stunts the troubled him and Bright vs the Bengals were handled by them very well against the Chargers. I believe in the guy even though the media and most fans don't.

Although Sam Young had some problems he has been very consistent in his play. Like Colombo he is strictly a RT because he is too slow to play on the left side. He has a chance of being our RT of the future. His style of play actually reminds me of Colombo's quite a bit.

Phil Costa in my opinion has made the team. The staff loves guys that can play multiple position and Costa has played very well.

Travis Bright had a slow start but has turned it up a notch. Is it enough for him to make the 53 man roster? That might be too much to ask at this point. But I feel much better about him after the last two games then I did the first. He will have to keep playing at a high level to force the team into keeping 10 offensive linemen.

To me that is solid depth and we potentially have a guy that gets cut that can end up starting in this league at some point.

Kosier should be fine when he returns. I'm still a little concerned about Colombo but it's likely the problem he had with his knee was a lingering problem he had and kept quite.... kinda like Ratliff with his elbow problems.

All I know is I sure feel better about this group then I ever did watching guys named Procter, Berger, Martan and McQuistan flounder around on the roster for years.

It took Hudson Houck a season to get his kind of players on the team but I think we can already see some results.

I might not be ready to call the line a strength just yet.... not until Davis, Groude and Colombo prove they are still the players the team hopes they are, but I certainly feel better about the depth behind them. If this group (Davis, Groude and Colombo) plays well we all will look back and and have a good laugh at how worried we were leading up to the season.

It's the biggest weakness apart from Kicker on the team. By a large margin.

luckily oline is one of the least important parts of a team.

Unless garrett comes up with some great game plans I can see tough defensive teams dominating our Offensive line all year. Hey just be glad we dont have the statue of Bledsoe anymore. Romo will need those quick feet this season that's for damm sure.

Young guys are starting to step up. With this years crop, I am seeing 4 Olineman that could paly here for a while. Young, Free, Brewster and Bright. Seems like we have accumulated a nice little pool of young lineman. Certainly over the next year or two all will be switched to the starting lineup. Most looks like they can step in in case of an injury this year, if needed. Throw in Costa, and thats 5 lineman.

I am satisfied with our Oline for now. I would not call it a strength, but I wouldnot call it a glaring weakness that would prevent us from going to the playoffs.

I think it's a weakness as we sit here today. I think that in the future, these young guys will improve and eventually become starters and at that point, it might even become a strength. Who knows?

Yes, I think there is potential in Free and Brewster. But as a whole, right now, in 2010, they are a liability and we'll only go as far as they can hold up.

Oops your right I miscounted. Barron and Holland make the squad so that leaves at most 3 open spots on the roster for the young guys. IMO that leaves Bright on the outside looking in.

Hopefully we can stash him on the PS. Next year Barron will likely leave as a FA opening a spot for Bright.

Obviously the OL is suspect, but the performances of the subs this past weekend suggest that things may not be quite as bleak as many have feared.

FYI, Montrae Holland started two games I believe two years ago when Koiser got injured and then was replaced with Cory Proctor who in turn started the next 11 games.

The guy has the ability to play in my opinion. I just think he is fat and lazy. Like say Alex Barron except at guard rather than tackle.

Bright can play center I believe. I think experience sides with Bright over Costa even though I think Costa could be better in the long run. Can we sneak him onto the PS? I don't know.

It's funny. Before last game, everyone was screaming Brewster sucks, now everyone is a fan. (not picking on you)

There was a big difference in play it appears. I wonder what changed. Did he actually get that much better, or was he playing against lessor pass rushers. I remember hearing in the previous game, he didn't have the ability to drop anchor or the laterally movement to stop edge rushers. Now all the sudden that has completely changed?

I'm going to hold off any judgment for now. As we all should.

I don't know how anyone can say our O-line is a "weakness". Thats a strong word.

Our O-line has the capability of being really good or bad but they will turn in more good performances than poor.

Where I worry about our O-line is when we take them on the road.

Good post and I agree with most of it.

Bright and Costa are guys I have not focused on, but with all of the positives i'm seeing from various reports,, I am going to go back and evaluate their play. What a shot in the arm those guys would be if they are legit.

Brewster, Barron, and Young represent great young depth at the T position. After the first two games, I really didn't understand the concern over our line. Brew and Young have played so well that I think Barron better get his butt on the field or he might go bye bye...

I was more encouraged by what I saw from the lineman in the SD game not less. The skill players looked to be off the mark I'm not going to put that on the oline. Before the game some around here were hollering how Romo should not play because he would get hurt well that line held up without Kosier and Colombo. They still have work to do but at least for me it was not hard to see improvement from some of the guys up front.

Holland got injured and that was why we were stuck with Proctor. Holland looked very good back then; seems to be a solid guard.

However before anyone sings praises remember over the years we have had a lot of players look great in camp and never do anything in the regular season.

I don't see this OL as a weakness, because it's all about execution in the redzone and the blame for that is across the board IMO. The OL got the most yards in Cowboys history last year and that's quite an accomplishment that shouldn't be overlooked. I think we've finally improved our depth in these last 2 drafts as well and I like what I'm seeing from the rookies and 1st year players. Eliminating Flo's assortment of penalties should really help this offense too.

It's the biggest weakness by a mile. When it's to bad that the franchise QB is getting smeared and the RBs have nowhere to run, no offense can be produced. What's even scarier is the fact that the staff can't seem to acknowledge that even even an issue.

Our offensive line has been our weak link for many years. Now with Flosmell gone atleast we have a chance to start improving. It will take playing experience and they will get better.
With Flosmell you always knew he was going to get a Flozell Hat trick, False start, holding penalty and whiffed block.
The Dallas Cowboys can never win if they can not protect the quarterback. We know the old line could not protect so it was time to try something new.
