per archer over at ESPN

It was the right move. Nearly impossible to become an NFL tight end with zero experience. Not that many Antonio Gates' out there, but even with Gates it took a couple years to develop.

I can see why they would want to try him out there, because he has amazing measurables, but DE is going to be a lot easier for him to pick up. You can learn specific parts of a DE, where as a tight end you need to know how to run block, pass block, run routes, and catch....

They can first start Obada off as a situational pass rusher. Learn one thing, master it, and then move on to becoming a better run defender.

He's eligible for the PS right? If he is thats where he will be. You can't expect this guy to pick up DE in a few months no matter how hard he trys.

Gates was an All-State Michigan football player in high school. It wasn't like he never played football.

That's why so many other basketball players that tried football with zero football experience whatsoever, have never made it in the pros.

Practice squad should be Obada's goal this year. He's pretty much the candidate it was designed for.

Yes, and with interesting special rules involving foreign players. Obada will be a 9th (extra) player on the practice squad that other teams cannot claim. I assume he could be claimed when originally released from the final cutdowns.

From BTB
Teams are allowed to carry one additional "International Player," whose citizenship and principal place of residence are outside the United States and its Territories. That player doesn't count against the 10-man limit.

From MHR
(b) The League may elect to allow some or all Clubs to add to their practice squads one additional player, who shall not count against the limit above, whose citizenship and principal place of residence are outside the United States and its Territories (“International Player”). The League’s election in any one season shall not determine or affect its election in any subsequent season. Such International Players shall be subject to the same terms and conditions of employment that apply to other practice players except that they (1) may not, during the term of their practice player contract, negotiate or sign an NFL Player Contract with any Club; and (2) may not practice with any Club following the last Conference Championship Game unless both Conference Championship teams have such a player. In addition, notwithstanding the provisions of Section 4 below, such International Player shall be eligible to serve on a Practice Squad for three additional seasons after the completion of the player's year(s) as an International Player. As set forth in Article XXXIV, Section 3, the weekly salary for such international players shall not be included in the employing Club's Team Salary and shall be deducted from the calculation of the Salary Cap in the same manner as any Player Benefit.

A third stringer on a Division III school would have a better shot in the NFL than this dude.

Practice Squad. At best. He'd have to be a Randy Moss type freak of an athlete to make the jump from London club ball to the NFL.

Why the efe would they even consider him at TE anyway?

I know you were joking with the question, but imagine his catching radius with a 7 foot wingspan. If he can figure it out, he's Witten' replacement in 3 years. Until then, learn from the best.
