Observation (and problem): Cowboys really have 4 RDEs

Seems to me that Hardy, Gregory, Mincy, and Lawrence are all, in <their> perfect world, right defensive ends.

Maybe that's one of the issues. Greg Hardy is literally the only guy generating consistent pass rush.

Does it make any sense to move Hardy to LDE, where presumably he'd still be able to do pretty well and then rotate Lawrence, Mincy, and Gregory at RDE?

My goal would to have Hardy and Gregory on the field together more. I think they are potentially our best pass rushers, and I only say potentially because we haven't seen enough of Gregory.

Hardy played portions of the game at LDE in the last game, I believe. Marinelli moves him around.

I really liked Hardy and Gregory next to each other in preseason. I have to admit, it hasn't panned out the way I'd hoped here the last two weeks. But playing them next to each other makes it impossible to double them both. And Hardy's such a handful that when he games with Gregory, it really ought to be hard to stop.

I say that, but then three broken-down OLs in a row have blocked us pretty effectively.

Honestly, I don't know what's going on with either the DL or the LBs right now. It doesn't make sense to me that they're not playing better. Pressure from them ought to be what's causing all the turnovers we've been counting on, right?

I'm not sure if Lawrence is best suited for LDE. He certainly doesn't seem to be excelling there but he's still learning. I think of Tony Tolbert when I think about prototypical LDE. Good run stopper but can also get you some pressure, say 6+ sacks most years.

Most effective rush is inside where opposing QBs dont have a pocket to step up into. There has been no inside rush to speak of.

We're getting pressure, we're not generating sacks. This is why it's leading me to believe the linebackers and secondary simply aren't covering their guys long enough. Too often did I see Bradford drop back and already have a guy open.

We were lucky Bradford isn't even close to being elite or it could have gotten real ugly for us.

You feel like on Sunday they got pressure? We aren't getting any pressure from the middle. All Bradford did was drop back and run back into the middle of his pocket.

One word , Nick fishing Hayden

After he got trucked , Irving came in and showed some thing. Crawford don't know what happened , may be was double teamed , Lwarence is not making use of the opportunities one on one

The OP is right.

Hardy is a match-up nightmare, meaning he can line up all over the place and cause fits, but he is best as a blindside pass rusher.

Gregory is definitely a RDE.

Lawrence is a natural RDE but could bulk up some and fully convert to LDE.

Mincey is a rotational guy.

Now, David Irving, who also has position flexibility, has some real LDE or "anchor" potential.

Another issue is we don't have a true 3Tech (quick penetrator) or a true 1Tech (two gap defender).

I agree with that. Not getting enough from the DT's. I'd work on that before I worry about our DE's.

Crawford should've been. This guy showed too much potential to all of a sudden fall off the face of the earth.

Hold on, isn't Rod a DL genius? Everyone keeps blaming the DB's, but if any of these guys could rush, they wouldn't have to cover for 8 seconds every play. I forgot Mincy was still playing. I'm going to have to go rewatch some of the game to see if he really did play. If he did, he's been invisible. Lawrence and Crawford are horrible. They make me miss Selvie. (Choke) sad but true...
