Generally I was impressed. This is young hungry team & fun to watch. Few observations I made:

The Good:
1. Jaylon Smith LB has progressed. Need to see how he handles higher volume of plays but LBs all sudden might be deepest group.

2. Joe Thomas LB was really impressive and more physical than I expected. Really confident in LB group.

3. Dorance Armstrong showed good power and just missed sack. If this is his floor..Dallas is in good shape.

4. Taco is getting better. I can't emphasize his reach (you have to see it in person to appreciate it) and if he keeps getting strong you might have two bookends in Taco & Armstrong.

5. I think WR group is better than last year. Receivers are shifty and notice alot more open space for Dak to make throws.

6. Michael Gullup is going to be #1 WR. Ultra impressed with him. Good size, speed and runs silky smooth. After game in his interview...he is almost anti-diva and I think that's what this team needs.

7. Lance Lenoir - little under-sized but huge heart. You win championships with guys like this on roster. I love this game - good hands, fearless. There was reason Dak talked him up.

8. Dak - I thought he played well in new system and throw nice long pass. I think DB lost ball in sun-light so I really want to see what Dak does in Preseason game 2 (which is most important one).

9. Kevon Frazier - was active and looks like solid contributor.

10. Charles Tapper - looks bigger and if healthy I think he is solid contributor.

The Bad:
1. Cooper Rush - doesn't have NFL arm and looks timid. Dallas needs to address back-up QB before season.

2. Donovan Olumba - might look like Sherman but basically gave up at end.
3. Connor Williams - once again saw him getting blown up. Concerned if he is starter at beginning of year.
4. Mike White - doesn't look comfortable. I would still keep him as #3 but Dallas needs to upgrade #2.

Conclusion: Defense might be better than expected as are WR group. If Dak looks like he can be successful in this new system I think Dallas has to make move and trade for Earl Thomas.

this goes right back to what i was saying. Stash mike white on ps , no one is going to pluck him. Only carry 2 Qbs. End it there. No need to carry 3, we arent dominate in all areas right now where we can give up roster spots. Cooper has enough to be a solid back up. im not going to determine his future on one pre season game.

Frazier is definitely a better in the box type safety. I fear he will get exploited if asked to play a lot of coverage. Will be interesting to see how they use him this year if they think both Heath and Woods have improved (or they bring in Thomas).

I didn't think Lenoir would make this roster, just another of those feel good stories from camp. But he's likely going to make it. He looked pretty good.

I also laughed at one guy who claimed the LBs corps would be a strength of ours. Initial impression? I was WAY WRONG. Thomas was impressive and should be great in the role we will ask him play.

I really hope they give Lewis more of a shot in the slot. Brown just scares me out there in game action. I wonder if he looks good in camp because in practices they let him get away with a lot more clutching and grabbing than he would be allowed in games. The one call away from the ball was kind of ticky tacky but he clearly was clutching the guy again. It's a habit he can't seem to shake.

Anyone focus on some of the younger Ss like Kelly?

C'mon dude one pre season game, that is just being rash.

The 3rd game is the most important one since they play until the half.

Secondary got burnt all night and we had zero sacks the entire game. Yah, this defense is humming.

I don't get the obsession with Mike White. All he has is a strong arm and thats it. CZ seems to overrate him.

I prefer Cooper Rush by a mile. And no I don't think that Cooper's arm is a problem.
If you don't think his floaters are a problem than perhaps your like for the player clouds your judgment.

The thing with White is, this was his first NFL action. Next week I want to see if Rush and White can both improve from last night's performance cause the backup spot is still wide open at this point. We better pray Dak stays healthy all season

Nope its not a problem until it is. He certainly doesn't have an arm like Kellen Moore does. But its not a rocket arm. Its good enough for a backup for now.

It was a problem, did you not see the floater to Gallup. Gallup had a few yards on the defender and would have had another TD but Rush just doesn't have it. Against the starters Rush will be getting picked off like Eli if he has to play in the regular season.

Mike White basically led the nation in passing at Western Kentucky. Let's not judge him with 3rd and 4th stringers in his first preseason game.

He needs a year or two. He didn't play power 5 football last year.

If Rush played with the starting o-line, Zeke, etc, he'd look more confident. Any quarterback would.

Hard to j judge backup quarterbacks when they're playing in chaos.

Didn't Dak and Tony Romo both look great playing in those same situations? To be fair, Dak and Tony are both pedigreed QBs to a degree, Rush is not.

one play, really? last pre season Cooper was good enough to challenge Dak, now all of a sudden hes not good enough?

Hes good enough that he has respect of the players and they know he can get it down teh field and score. What do you think you ll get in a back up, Tom Brady? Back up Qbs arent easy. Not many players want to be playing second fiddle.

Work with Cooper and he might be a good back up for years.

Dak never did. He got to play with the starters from the get-go.

And if you remember way back, Romo was playing jailbreak football his early days in those crazy 4th quarters.

I'm actually now against the trade for Earl Thomas due to his recent antics on social media and for visisting the Texans training camp recently. The guy is still under contract and is taking things too far in my opinion. That amount of disrespect to the organization that drafted him and really molded him into the player he is today is unnecessary and I take that as a sign that he is ultimately out for only himself.

We also need to take into consideration that the front office will be taking on his cap hit for this year and most likely an extension to make him "happy" for the next 2 or 3 years on a player who is nearing the end of his career.

In my opinion, the outlook on our defense is trending upwards.

As a fan of this team I would be displeased with a trade that occurs where Dallas gives up anything more than a 5th round draft pick.

I kinda want it to happen just to make the people who keep asking for him shut up. However, he's simply not worth what the Seahawks are asking for due to his cap number. So I am proud of the Cowboys for once sticking to their guns.

Thomas has always been a good locker room guy and players like him. So I have no worries at all that he would be a problem here. Him visiting the Texans camp is strange but wouldn't be a disqualifier for me, given he'd easily be the best safety on this team. He makes this defense even better immediately.

I might be more inclined to side with you if we had some real young pieces at S that could grow with this defense but there isn't a safety on this roster that has the ceiling a guy like Thomas has. I mean if we had drafted Derwin James, maybe I would think differently. But as much as I like Woods, I think S is a clear weakness on this team.

Cap wise, the way I read it, if we trade for him, Seattle has to eat the $1.9MM prorated bonus of his $10.4MM cap hit and then the Cowboys would be on the hook for $8.5MM. We have over $14MM in cap space available right now. So we could absorb his contract easily for 2018.

Going forward, we also apparently have the cap space to sign him long term. There were reports he wanted more from Seattle than Berry got from KC, but I wonder if being able to play again back in Texas, he'd be willing to take a more team friendly deal (granted it would still be a healthy chunk of change).
