On to the observations:

  • Darren McFadden took the first-team snaps at tailback for the first time but made his mark for the second team in red zone work with a draw up the middle in which he burst through the Rams defense for a touchdown of about 15 yards. In two-minute work, McFadden replaced Joseph Randle and took a check down from Tony Romo to the St. Louis 1 before the fights began.

  • Tony Romo finished 10-of-12 in team and 7-on-7 drills against the Rams. His best throw came on a deep post to Terrance Williams, who ran by cornerback Imoan Claiborne, beating the St. Louis blitz.

  • While the Rams canceled the end of their practice after the fights, the Cowboys worked against each other in a two-minute drill. Because the Cowboys were in white jerseys, the defense had to put on yellow pennies. Safety J.J. Wilcox broke up a Romo pass in the end zone to close practice. He remained down for a little bit because of a cramp.

  • Claiborne got a punch in on Dez Bryant during the fight, but he must have been upset from a bad day. In one-on-one work, Devin Street beat him for a score with a nifty fake slant to the corner route. After making the catch, Street dropped the ball on a prone Claiborne.

  • Romo connected with Williams on a touchdown in which the receiver made a difficult grab in traffic in red zone drills but if it had been a game Rams defensive end Robert Quinn would have had a sack after blowing by Darrion Weems.

  • Dan Bailey went 5-of-6 on field goal attempts with makes from 38, 41, 44, 49 and 54 yards. He was wide right from 51 yards. Unofficially Bailey is now 50-of-54 in camp.

  • Cornerback Orlando Scandrick (knee) was back in pads on Tuesday but he did not take part in team drills. Scandrick has missed the last eight practices but he is clearly getting closer to returning. Safety Barry Church was in pads at the start of practice as well but did not work because of rib cartilage issues. Cole Beasley (Achilles), Gavin Escobar (concussion), Ken Bishop and Corey White did not practice for the first time in camp.

Some notes:

1.It was the first practice action of the season for Darren McFadden, and he appeared to come through it well. McFadden wasn't as noticeable carrying the ball, but he was during the blitz period of practice in an across the pocket pickup that allowed Tony Romo to hit Lucky Whitehead on an "In" cut for a nice gain. McFadden saw what was happening in front of him and was able to adjust in a very tight situation inside.

2.It was good to see that Zack Martin had two quality reps in his work during the one-on-one pass rush drill. It was no easy match when Martin had to face Nick Fairley, then later Aaron Donald. Martin is one of the best when it comes to playing with straight power at the line or adjusting on the move to maintain position. Against Fairley he overset on him initially, but he was able to adjust back to secure. On Donald, he went straight power and jumped him before he had a chance to get going. It was a perfect pass set with the proper knee bend.

3.Tremendous effort and finish by Morris Claiborne during blitz period to register a sack off a slot blitz. On the play, Rod Marinelli went with the fire-zone by bringing Claiborne off the edge and replacing him in coverage with Randy Gregory -- who dropped on the play. Claiborne timed his rush perfectly, which caught the Rams by surprise. Claiborne not only beat Greg Robinson, but Tre' Mason as well. It was a perfect call for the situation and executed well by both Gregory and Claiborne.

4.Corey White continues to be in the right place when it comes to making plays. During the blitz period, White was put in coverage on Steadman Bailey. The Rams’ way of attacking pressure was trying to work the ball inside. Bailey attempted to carry his route that way and White's positioning was outstanding. He was slightly upfield, but in a position that if he needed to drive, he was ready to go. When the ball came out high to Bailey, all White had to do was snatch it out of the air and turn the turnover into six points...

Sounds like lotsa heavy action in C'boys practices lately -- here's hoping it pays off in the regular season . . .

If it had been a real game Tyron Smith would have been playing and would have kept Quinn from even sniffing Romo. Therefore, it would still have been a TD.

People forget that more than half of our starters weren't even on the field. Do they really think that just because the Ram's starting Dline is going to do the same thing during a real game? Give me a break!!

Been reading good reports on McFadden since he returned. Hopefully he stays healthy. And it shows the teams patience in working him back in slowly pays off.

As great as we feel about our offensive line that's about as good as the Rams organization feel about their defensive line. They aren't no slouches AT ALL. Between their defensive line, the Bills and the Jets....you're looking at top 5 defensive lines in this league.

FWIW, Nate said on Talking Cowboys yesterday that Joseph Randle has looked great the last few days of practice.

The article said:
With the bulk of the St. Louis Rams defense rushing over to their defensive teammates after a brawl broke out on the other field, only linebacker James Laurinaitis and cornerback Janoris Jenkins remained to face the Dallas Cowboys offense. Laurinaitis kicked the ball away a couple of times to delay the Cowboys but he wasn't successful.

While everybody's attention was on the other field, the Cowboys scored and Tony Romo raised his arms in triumph jokingly.

LOL I love Tony.
