I know I have heard about Williams moving closer to the line of scrimmage. So what. OCs around the league will find ways to isolate RW for winning TDs.

I hope I am wrong. I have kind of lost any trust in RW abilities to play the safety position.

Wait a minute... Wade has said he is going to be playing near the line of scrimmage more this year. Which only leads to the logical conclusion that he is going to be blitzing more, therefore being in coverage LESS. But you think that OCs are going to be able to isolate him MORE in coverage than they did last season even with him being in coverage LESS??

Something doesn't compute. If anything he's going to be burned less. And if we actually get out of our base 3-4 when there are 3 or 4 WRs, unlike we did much of the time last season, that's only going to make Roy more of a "safety" rather than a cover guy.

First it was pass coverage... now roy is a liability close to the LOS?

If hes playing closer to the line hell be playing a shallower zone not the deep zone. Look up what a cover 3 is and get back to me.

My god. I'm sorry, but this is starting to get ridiculous. Watch Roy Williams tape. It's not that he CANT cover, (go back to his early days w/ the boys, and you'll see a completely different player) it's just he isnt that fluid, doesnt have good recovery speed, and isnt good covering alot of ground. If he has to turn his hips, its over (which isnt an easy thing to do anyway.

But guess what? The scheme we ran last year required him to do all the things he was weak at. Roy Williams is one of the best safeties in the league when you arent asking him to play a 15-20 yard deep cover 2 shell zone. Parcells coached a scheme more than he did players. The scheme we played last year brought to the surface ALL of Roys weaknesses, and NONE of his strengths. He is a decent coverage safety, just not when he is asked to cover lots of ground, which was required last year. Add to the fact that he had a rookie FS and an incumbent one, and you saw the results. Somehow he still managed 5 picks.

I'm not trying to be some Roy homer either, as he he seems to be mentally soft, needs to lose some weight, and doesnt have very good hands, but people are making him out to be some absolutely horrendous player in coverage which he is not. Yes he is a safety, and he has to cover, but if you can use his strengths to his ability and limit his weakness (Deep zone, covering lots of ground) then he is an elite safety in this league. Period.

Thanks for the post.

It looks like your position is one that you've spent many hours formulating. Your iron-clad logic forms a convincing argument, one that could possibly be described as water-tight. While this implies that no water can get in, it also suggests that water cannot get out. Which, incidentally, reminds me of those heartwarming commercials for adult undergarments - where grandma and grandpa are so overwhelmed with shame....until they put on Depends! Then, they're playing with the grandkids, taking out the trash, erecting skyscrapers.

Yes, your argument seems watertight....much like Depends.

Trouble is......we all know what they're full of.

Here's a little something you may want to think about before starting another thought-provoking "Roy sucks" thread...

When your can't pressure the opposing QB so he has time to find the deep patterns then it exacerbates the problem. The defensive backfield could be full of Deion Sanders but if you can't pressure the QB the advantage goes to the offense, they know where the play is supposed to go.

I don't think opposing offenses will have much trouble finding Roy. He'll be the guy knocking them into last week.

Is it a penalty if he does that to OCs?
