Oddball thoughts

Still waiting for an explanation as to why Dez didn't try to catch the ball. He acted like he didn't even know the ball was coming his way.

That was a strange no call. Was ref screened by Dez's body since he was on that side?

That was equally strange. If no attempt then take a flop.

Ball was on the wrong side of the receiver.

Interesting. Maybe he has his ways and Lee is trying to get him to play a way he's not comfortable with.
 
Weekly Redball offense rant to break up all the "oddball" / "random" kumbaya...

Today, and the six weeks before that, are not on Weeden and Cassell. They are on Garrett and his OC for not getting their heads out of the 90's and playing modern offensive football. The Dallas O is designed to be simple and let playmakers do their thing, but defensive coordinators and the athletes they coach have gotten too good for offenses to just line up and go play. The Giants braintrust figured this out two years ago, and the switch to an offense that helps players make plays instead of relying on them to do so has rejuvenated Manning's career.

I think the jury's out on Weeden; the offense he floundered in for weeks did him zero favors. But I think Cassell is good enough to win a few games if play design has a strategy and puts players in position to make plays. I think we saw a little bit of that with the use of Whitehead and the jet sweep in the running game. It showed promise against NYG, and then steadily disappeared from the game plan. I agree with everyone who rues Dwayne Harris signing in NY instead of Dallas. He's a great return man and special teams demon, but I don't think he's a better receiver than Beasley. Harris is a good player, no doubt, but I think the offense he plays in really helps him out.

I hadn't thought about it until this week, but I think the Dallas defense may suffer from the same malady as the offense. Marinelli's scheme is simple so that players can play fast without thinking too much. That's Seattle's philosophy, and maybe the Cowboys' defensive talent just isn't good enough to what the Seahawks do. I think it's safe to say that complexity didn't help when Rob Ryan was the Dallas DC (or anyone else's). All I know is that there always seem to be guys running wide open in the flat or through the Dallas secondary, especially on third down, while I rarely see much separation when we have the ball.

Anyone hear Lynch talk about our great kicker when we had the last drive and down by four... I think he caught himself right after but it made me do a discount double check on the score.

Byron Jones is having a good rookie year but I gotta believe it would be better if he could just hone in on one spot instead of having to switch around.

I might just be seeing things but I swear I seen Zack Martin move aka false start at least two times and it was never called. Strange.

Running game took a step back this week.

It is amazing that a defense holds a team to three points for the vast majority of the game only to give up a TD with under two minutes left.

The QB hits completions to 8 different players but we can only manage six points.

Somebody must have mentioned to Red that him clapping after bad plays is Pissing people off. I have noticed he is not clapping as much and hardly clapping when they show him after a bad play.

Wonder if being off for so long has caused Hardy to hit that "rookie" wall as it seems like he has lost a little step.

What everybody is thinking now... Romo comes back and wins some games which will feel nice but it will hurt our draft position

I noticed it also and was like, "Dude, we need more than a field goal to win this game." Lynch must have lost his place.

I was thinking after this debacle, is Romo really the reason we are losing? Or is it the Coaching? Or the Other players? First I thought it has to be the players- we don't have the vaunted depth everyone thought we had.
Then I thought it was Romo- but other than the 3 pick game Cassel had, it wasn't terrible! Certainly not great, but not horrid.
Then I thought it has to be coaching-
Jim Tomsula won a game with Blaine Gabbert!
Let that sink in!
 
My random though

Weeded is only good when coming off the bench

Garrett being the great coach that he is saw that cassel was doing his best brad Johnson impersonation... Should have put weeded in the game in the 4th qtr. Crazy enough we prob win.


Yeah i said it. Muck it, might cry two tears in a bucket.
