"The Giants, the Giants!" ...cried the dwarfs...just one year ago.

"Look at how deep New York dove into free agency and how it's rewarded them. "If only Jerry Jones would do the same!" shouted the dwarfs, a fan folk known throughout the land.

The dwarfish folks, you must understand, really looked up to the Giants!

Last year and often through the offseason this was a recurring theme amongst the little folk, as they envied the G-men and all the many signings of big-dollar free agents by other teams. To be bigger, we must spend big, cried the Dwarfs. "Give us big names Jerry, for big dollars!"

Now that we've had a chance to observe the fruits of the Giants free-agent feasting?
-NY had no money left over this past offseason for their offense and will be cap constrained moving forward
-Giants have perhaps the most expensive defense in the NFL and are locked into a number of pricey, longterm contracts.
-NY sits 1-6
-The Giants big money defense has allowed nearly the same amount of points as the budget-careful Cowboys defense (only .7 points per game difference). Dallas has permitted 50 yards less per game in 2017 than the Giants.

The dwarfs have moved on from the Giants narrative, learning nothing...eager to find something else to whine about.

You are cherry picking Stats. I am not for FA shopping spree nor bottom fishing. Most people like selective spending. I am pretty sure most would take Gmen D over our current D.

If you had watch Gmen D vs Seattle which stopped Seattle cold in the redzone from inside 10 yds EIGHT straight times then you know you got a D.

Dallas ranked 12 on TOP and Gmen is 29th. So Dallas offense is helping our D playing D where as Gmen offense is constantly putting Gmen D in bad position.

If we had Gmen defense I am pretty sure we be 6-1 or 7-0.

I think their upset the Eagles and their current ability to fly. I'm looking forward to the next chapter of this page turner!

I agree with the OP's premise here.

In most cases, going gang-busters trying to rebuild a team via FA is fool's gold.

Like everything, there are exceptions to this, however, there are a rarity.

Ehh

It’s not the Giants big money players from last year who are bad.

Their defense is average this year because their offense is woeful- They have been ravaged by injuries.

Nice write up OP. This is a nice example of why JJ is done spending big on FAs. We will build via the draft and cap friendly rookie contracts. If we want the player beyond that contract, we try our best to retain him. If not, they walk. That way we never have an older roster and have no cap stress. We will have room for the Zacks and Dak and Zeke’s, etc.

Brad sham irritates me but has a point about FAs. If they are so good, why are they a available?

.

You're correct ... if you're look at maybe this week ... and you don't count in the price. Given the youth we have on defense and the price tag for our defense ... it's a no brainer to take the Dallas defense.
