Have some backed off the edge now? Well, some never will. LOL.

We signed LB Thomas, OL Martin and Fleming, WR Thompson and Hurns
We tagged DLaw and Irving to a 2nd round pick. and kept LP the best LS in the game. Also resigned Price, some decent depth
We also got Olawale in a trade
We also before FA started signed a Richard's guy in a S, Thompson. Camp body, maybe. But the new coaches can really work with this young and upcoming secondary.
Though not the sexy picks as some want, but these are good solid players.

We lost Hitchens, Wilbler, K. Smith and Cooper
No big losses here, except Hitchens, but he was expected to go with too high of an offer to keep.

Overall I think we came out in better shape.

now, what is next.
A few more LB's, another S, DT.
So if we could get Bowman, Suh, Boston at those positions.
and then we can do pretty much what we want in the draft as to BPA. How would you feel about the off season now as opposed to the panic frenzy from day 1 and 2?

I would rather draft a DT if they will do it. Suh wants way to much money and Dez is distraction enough. Lol.

Boston would be a upgrade and take the actual need away from drafting a safety high.

We got depth now at O-Line. And maybe a starter that is better than cooper.

I Ridley falls to us I wonder if we jump on it. No guarantee that he will be a instant impact player.

I would love to see our #1 pick be instant starter. A LB would be great.

We might regret letting hitch go. A stud DT and another solid LB along with a young potential DE would help going forward.

If they retained Hitchens at $9 mil per year, no way they could fill these holes with the FA's they did sign. We are better off this way. We will still need to draft IMO at least 3 LB's in the draft if they do not sign Bowman or a decent LB in FA.

I still say sign at least 3 in FA and draft 3, then let them compete.

The offseason cannot really be judged until results are in. We can all celebrate some of the moves made. But why give grades before the semester starts? Grading the FO moves in March is like giving a student a grade before they ever take a test.

doubt martin is as good as Cooper. He is strictly depth. Our new OT though is a definite upgrade as regards Swing Tackle. Our new WR I think is a good signing; we shall see. Better stay healthy. I will not praise our FO for resigning our own or using the Tag on Lawrence; that is just common sense. We have not done anything else of note.
This does seem I think to indicate that the FO is reasonably optimistic about Tryon's back problem. If they were going high for a Tackle in the draft they would have not got a good swing in FA. I believe this does show they intend to get the starting LG in the draft; probably round 2. They are I believe hoping to get two starters in the draft: LG and LB.

Because its more fun to project than wait for the season to end and point out the obvious.

Hey, they look like they got a respectable grade on the pre-test. What is wrong with you?

It's amazing that this group of free agents can make us arrogant.
Hope combined with over two decades of frustration does strange things with the mind. I'm hopeful we're better but at this point we're making assessments based on what we see on paper. Until Sept hits and the real games begin, its all hope and speculation.

Yes, I finally have hope again for this year as it looked bleak two weeks ago. Front Office has done a good job filling holes and improving this team.:clap:

I have said in another thread or two, that to me, it looks like Dallas is looking to re-create their secondary success from last year

* Secondary purge in 2017 with bringing in the young kids (my God, I loved and STILL love the Awuzie pick, but Lewis/Woods just as exciting) - with a year under their collective belts and a defensive guru in the fold, Jones being moved to CB, this unit could be the best on the team eventually
* WR's - we have too many, something must happen; I originally was thinking that we pull a "secondary" purge with the WR's but now that we have signed a legit #2 and #4-type, we are in pretty good shape; I mentioned dumping/trading Dez, but it always made me feel a little sick - I am happy if he stays and truly works on his craft, although, the hefty salary could go down - now they need to try to find dance (trade) partners for Beasley and Williams because we don't needs Williams and Beasley? who know if he gets used..I think having Dez and Hurns means that you can't double the slot guy, but if there is value in moving Beas, then the heir-apparent is waiting in Switz who has more WR position flex (can play outside), and he returns kicks - I would use the 2nd rounder on a WR to push Williams and Beas out the door now
* OLine - my goodness, we go from rags to riches (ok, a little strong there) with hiring Fleming/Martin shoring up that group that wasn't THAT far off

The moves (so far) by the FO have put the team in good shape to have our 2018 purge or "fix" with the LB corp

- we signed a back up, we have two starters (when healthy), but now the rest should go in favor of spending a few picks in the draft on LB; yes, I know we also could use a safety and a DT, but perhaps Boston is interested based on conjecture by many (me included); we whiffed on the other chances and I do NOT want to spend resources to acquire that guy from Seattle (if he was a FA, sure)

So, to re-cap, finish off the off-season "changes" by potentially getting a Bowman at LB, Boston @ S, find trading partners for Williams and Beasley, and then have a defensive-heavy draft with focus on LB (sprinkle in a WR and OL along the way)

Go Dallas!

christ, we've signed 2 backup type OL, a WR with 1 and a half good seasons, another with 30+ career catches and traded for a FB whose team liked our cast off better.
Feeling better? Not really, we haven't got any better tbh, we're treading water.....

I like the Fleming move the most because it could move Collins back to guard, and it protects against Tyron's back issues better than what we had last year.

However, everything depends on Dak Prescott.

The draft, free agency, none of it matters if Dak isn't the guy. This season rests on him.

This give me Vea at 19 if available. I could careless if it doesn't fit Rod scheme.

Not sure why Hanna is still on the team
Personally, I would like to move on with Hanna and either relegate Witten to a smaller role or release him. Hanna is faster, can block better, and can catch well, if given the opportunity.

This is not an indictment of Witten, just an observation of the facts of time.

Can't release Witten now his contract was restructured. That basically guarantees him in 2018 and possibly even 2019.
