In the offseason I thought the Cowboys should put a feeler out about Broncos Center Tom Nalen. I know the guy was pretty old, but I always thought he was a good veteran guy who could bring some veteran leadership to the Center position.
After seeing him take the cheapest of cheap shots at Igor Olshansky's knee last night I thank god the Cowboys never even thought about bringing him in. I would never want him around any young players.
As I saw the play live I only caught the very end of it and you saw Olshansky punching Nalen in the back of the head as he was kneeling in front of him on a pass thrown Plummer threw into the ground to stop the clock. Then they showed the replay and it's as clear as day that Nalen knows that the ball is just going into the dirt and he blatantly tries to chop down on Olshansky's knee.
If I was Olshanky I would have done more than just punch him in the back of the head. The Broncos have been called out for years about their cheap blocking techniques and that play right there showed the world that someone on Mike Shanahan's staff is teaching some seriously dirty football.
Nalen should be fined and suspended a game for his cheap shot. But instead it's going to be Olshansky who gets the fine and maybe a suspension because he got the penalty and was kicked out of the game.
If I am the owner of the Chargers I pay the fine for him and pat him on the back for punching Nalen. Maybe Nalen will think twice the next time he decides to try and end a guys career by being a complete s***bag.
Ok, I feel better now about getting that off my chest. lol. I just hate dirty football. I like tough hard nosed football with the best of them and I don't mind a punch to the gut here and there to show a guy you ain't chicken liver, but trying to end a guy's season on a cheap shot to his knee has no place in any sport.
