I don't know if anybody knows the answer but i figured id try....As a Cowboy fan for 25 plus years i've been getting Sunday ticket ever since it came out as i live in NY. Past couple of years only 3 or 4 games have not been nationally televised, but i like that i can watch any game i want.. I now have Verizon Fios available in my area and i could save 100 bucks a month by switching..... but i love my Cowboys.....does anyone know if you can just get Sunday ticket without there basic service??? Can i just order it in August?? Has anyone done this before????? Before i call DTV i wanted to try and get some answers before they tell me what they only want me to know!!! Thanks in advance for any info...........:bang2:

Nope. They used to do that but they don't anymore. At least that is my understanding.

I think you have to get at least the basic service inorder to get Sunday ticket. I looked into myself, because I am also looking into getting the Sunday Ticket for this upcoming season. But I could be wrong about this.

That is my understanding as well.

I learned the hard way after buying a sat and box from someone a few years back just so I could go and order the sunday ticket as I like my cable service for everything else. After doing so I called to get sunday ticket and learned I had to apply for at least a years worth of their basic cable package in order to get it.

So I wasted x amount (small amount) of money buying that used sat and box.

That was a few years ago but I doubt it has changed.

I was grandfathered into that setup but had to cancel my subscription a few years back when I moved.

They don't allow it anymore and thats a shame. You have to pay for a butt load of junk you don't even want.

they used to allow this. Before I moved here I had sunday ticket and only used it during football season.

That is no more though. It used to be great.

Now it costs a small fortune just for sunday ticket alone, its still worth it though.

It will be interesting to see what treatment the Cowboys get after missing the playoffs. That usually means less prime time games and less late afternoon games, but the Cowboys are a ratings bonanza week after week. Plus that new stadium has got to be showcased by Fox, CBS, ESPN and NFLN whenever they get the chance. So we'll see. I want to get rid of Sunday Ticket because of the expense, but I'm afraid I'll regret it for those 3 to 6 games when the Cowboys are not shown locally. I wish the NFL had Pay-Per-View on a game to game basis. That would be heaven.

That is what they may be working towards with the NFL Network setup.

That would be outstanding, but I am sure they make more money hand over fist the way they do it now. I have had it for four years and I think I watched maybe 10 games that were not national or locally televised. But they still got a grand out of me.

If we were 5-11 again, I am sure it would be more worth it.

I live in NY also. Was going to make the switch to Fios tv as well, but then I was told I have to give up Directtv and the NFL ticket. I just did the Internet and phone deal...

Yeah, I called in one year and was angry cause they tried charging me for full service and I told the lady they should start that. She was all serious and got really formal and supposedly took down a "customer request" statement or some crap like that.

No way they would ever do that. I'm just hoping it gets to the point on NFL.com where you can pay for a sub over there for like $100 and watch games live online like they have on Sunday nights. I'd pay for it.

DirecTV blows.

I was told by a guy who works for Dish Network that the last time the Sunday Ticket was up for grabs, Dish Network put in a pretty hefty bid but at the last minute DirecTV swooped in and damn near tripled what Dish Network offered. Dish Network is better in every single aspect I wish they had Sunday Ticket :(

With only two exceptions, I love Directv. If they ever provide local channels in my area, I will love them even more, but that hasn't happened yet. I would fault them for denying me distant network programming as a compromise, but I blame my local affilates for not granting waivers necessary to make that happen (even though I did end up getting FOX/big whoop).

I've been with Directv since around '03. At that time, I was a big dish/Dish Network/cable subscriber.

Having a big dish was cool. I was allowed to drop my regular programming subscription for only the NFL Sunday Ticket package around '97 or '98. Dish Network became my regular programming provider then. And I hooked up basic cable for the local affilates since over the air reception hadn't been the most reliable (the wifey had to keep up with the local news and Victor on Y&R  ).

Dish Network was ditched in favor of Directv at the same time the NFL threw big dish subscribers to the curb. I even tried to go back to Dish Network for their local channel package and finally eighty-six cable, but their newer access cards did not want to operate my old receiver. Plus, they didn't want to offer me a deal for a new receiver to replace my old one (which was still in great condition) to regain me as a customer.

After paying their bills faithfully for five years, you would think that they would've done whatever necessary to get me back. Guess not. That's their loss and it's another reason why I love Directv. Now, if I can somehow FINALLY get rid of that #@&%@ cable..!

I had directv and have been on FIOS for 3 years now. I will never go back to directv. FIOS has better picture quality, faster internet, more programming, better customer service and all for less each month in my case. $80 a month for all HD channels and 20mbps downlaod speed including HD receivers and dvr. the couple of games out of the year the cowboys aren't on tv i'll trek it to a bar.

It's maybe years before FIOS or an alternative is offered in my neck of the woods. Were you receiving HD programming before you left DTV? While I am paying $20 extra for their premium package without internet (Bellsouth DSL), I would say that the quality of DTV's HD programming is quite good.

yes i was. I know 5-6 houses in my area that have switched from directv with HD programming that have gone to FIOS and will not go back. yes FIOS is pretty limited in area right now but when it is available, i don't hesitate recommending it to people. I will say this, at first i thought it was just in my mind, but everyone that has switched and those who haven't see a PQ difference when watching FIOS compared to DTV.

not a bad idea if you have to have sunday ticket. i guess it depends on where you live and how much time you have to watch other games. i don't have enough time to watch other games on the weekends but if you do...that's a good plan to go with. last year they showed every game here in SoCal. otherwise i'd save a bit of money just hitting the bar once or twice each season.
