Can some on explain to me how we have a defence that's predicated in making the opposing offence drive down the field. A bend but don't break defence. But at the same offence that's simingly predicated on sustaining long drives down the field?

Isn't that counter productive? You would think seeing as though the defensive philosophy is to force opposing offenses sustain long drives without mling mistakes, the Cowboys would want to employ an offence that takes chances down the field. How can you coach a defence this way, then coach your offence to play in the very fashion you would want to see out of the opposing offence on Sunday?

Can some one smarter than me expline this?

This is my biggest gripe with Jerry as a GM. You'd think that as a general manager who cannot be fired, Jerry would be the ultimate position of power to employ a strategy he believes he in and, come hell or high water, he's rolling with that strategy.

Instead, we tend to get a mixed and mashed approach. From year to year, he's likely to vary wildly in what kind of defensive strategy he wants to use, the kind of athletes he's looking to draft, the value he places on character, etc.

The ability to adapt and adjust is key in any industry, but Jerry is always a step off or behind when considering the big picture.

(Side note: This was not an attempt to make this an anti-Jerry rant. He's actually made some good personnel moves lately, but the big picture remains fuzzy because of his back-and-forth approaches, IMO. The original poster's example of an offense and defense with seemingly conflicting approaches is such an example.)

You have a point.. I do think teams need stability with their philosophy and the type of players the go after. Seems like those teams have shorter down periods.
