Offense first 2 picks

Why does everyone insist we will take an OT in the 1st round. You take an OT that high, he needs to be a day 1 starter. We do not need a day 1 starter for the OL.
They been saying Collins and Smith are coming along fine in rehab. By the time the draft comes along, they will still believe they are still the starters.

I have no issues with Pitts, if for some reason he falls, as Lamb fell to us last year.

Because he's the best OT prospect that has come out, according to PPF, ever. If this is in fact true, then I can easily see why you would make that move.

The best defense of player falls in at number nine and will get him at 10. We’re going to get just what we should get. Nothing special. I mean will get a great player but nothing more than what he should be. Unless pitfalls

I have no idea who’s a future HOFer. And I never said Surtain isn’t talented. All I’m saying is listen to your scouting reports and follow your draft board. If you have a guy rated as the 2nd best player in the draft and project him as a potential All Pro, don’t pass on him and pick the 20th player on your board with the 10th pick just because you need defense.

Conversely, if your team needed offense and you passed on Lawrence Taylor because “this is an offense based draft”, you are killing your team.
Sure, but again you exaggerate.

Most worthy. Example Zack Martin. That was the last time we made a proper pick . Cd lamb was the most worthy. Not really he just happened to fall to us. I can explain what it means to be most worthy you just have to get it

You get a player like pitts. Then you can trade Gallup or Cooper you don’t pass on the talent like pitts.I remember I wanted Martin when the rest of the world wanted to defense. I’ll never forget that. Martin was definitely the correct choice. No matter how bad we need a defense

Pitts, Sewell or Slater in the first would be ok with me.

Would prefer going defense the rest of the way.

Of the billion or so Draft Simulators I ran I did have Sewell and Pitts drop to me. I scooped them up. I usually trade down in the first. Can still grab Slater in the mid first round. Probably drafted him first about a 100 times. Of course all that mean absolutely nothing.

Sewell or Slater in the first. Don't care after that.
Jones should try to protect his investment.
I do not believe Jones should trust those offseason surgeries to the point of relying on Steele and Knight again should one or both of his tackles go down again which is likely imo. Or trust the new guy.

The QB himself is coming off major surgery along with both his edge protectors.

The most talented tackle available should be chosen in order to further protect the QB contract investment.

Cornerbacks and Tight Ends don't accomplish that.

Still won in the trenches. Use the other 9 picks for defense or whatever.

If you go by Dane Brugler who I consider one of the best at this, he has them rated:

2 TE Kyle Pitts
5 OT Penei Sewell

10 CB Patrick Surtain
11 T/G Rashawn Slater
12 LB Micah Parsons
13 OG Alijah Vera-Tucker
14 CB Jaycee Horn

For where he has the CBs listed there doesn't appear to be any reason not to take one of them over the other teen rated OL or Parsons due to need. But if Pitts or Sewell fall to 10 then it seems like you have to go BPA and take one of them. I also think if the Cowboys either have the CBs tightly rated or possibly prefer Horn that a small trade down should be looked into.

4 Chase, 6 Waddle, 9 Smith also could drop but I think WR depth is to the point they probably don't go there again. Although I see Chase as another Bluechip guy like Lamb was last year and Pitts & Sewell would be this year.

What will determine our first pick will center on how many QBs will be taken early. It could be as many as 5 in the first 8 picks. Because the QB position has become THE most important for all teams, many teams at the top of the draft now reach for a QB who actually has 2nd or 3rd round talent.

With that in mind, if a guy like Sewell or Pitts falls to the 10th pick, you have to strongly consider taking them. Especially if your scouting dept says they have them rated as a potential lasting star and HOFer. Don’t get me wrong, we need to draft a lot of defensive help. But when it comes to drafting at the top of the talent pool, you can’t be just one sided in your thinking.

Truth is, this team has so many needs I don’t think it’s insane to draft Pitts or Sewell if they slide to us. Yes, defense is a priority but that can’t force you wear blinders when it comes to drafting priorities. If you pass on a guy that’s a future HOFer just because you’re only looking at one side of the ball, you will eventually kill your talent base.
Well said!!!

So before everyone goes nuts, I know we need defense and I do not see this happening. BUT I THINK regardless if Pitts some how happens to fall to us at 10 we just have to take him, with his upside and talent and what he would do for our offense as a whole plus the possibility of losing Gallup. I think its a no brainer pick.
Now at pick 44 if one of the top rated OT falls to us such as a Cosmi or Leatherwood and they are rated higher than a Def player, do we make that pick?
Do we go back to a team like in Daks first year where we maul teams keep the ball longer and our Def becomes better for it. Just a thought and wanted to hear what you all think if we went that way?
I know I cant wait for the draft either so killing time LOL.
Happy Easter or Holidays to all.
Been thinking this for a while. You could get adebo in the third and maybe a Bobby brown in the 4th

Which way we go is definitely up in the air but l don't believe we take an OT in the whole draft. I think they like Knight as a backup and swing guy, I think Steele moves inside as he has played all 5 spots on the line and I think they believe Alarcon (kid from Mexico) is Smith eventual successor.

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's early but the offense looks pretty dam good from where I'm sitting. It's time to load up the defensive side of the ball, so get it up, get it on or GET ON OUT!

Trust the board,it got us Lamb and there is no reason to take a lesser defensive player especially at 10.

Would you be upset with a Slater - Nixon with first two picks?

I am not a fan of Slater. Think he might be an OG in the NFL.

Not a fan of using a Top 10 pick on an OG unless that guy’s name is Quenton Nelson.
