Offense has to become more successful against shell coverage!

Sounds amazing.

Why does anyone ever run any other defense?
if you can run, then the light front is suspect to rushing attack. the key is being able to drop LBs into shallow coverage while safties and Corners cover their areas. there are 9 passing areas, left, right middle and then shallow, middle and deep and the defense allows them to cover areas, depending on how the play unfolds and what they see. but given that, then you are on your heals if the opposing team can run effectively.

this is what SF did to Dallas three years ago when they beat us at home. they had a DL that was able to stop the run and rush the passer with just front 4 and then drop 7 into coverage. that's why the DL is so important, because it allows you so much flexibility. if you can't stop the run or rush the passer and have to dedicate more players close to LOS, then your backend is suspect to passing attack. that's why dallas defense has problems. we tend to give up a lot of big plays and allow too many 3rd down conversions, because they pick their poison, and the opposing offenses just pick which ever option.

Ever since that home loss to Fangio and the Denver Broncos a few seasons ago, teams have had success following the same blueprint, shell coverage against this offense:

-Teams started to play two deep safeties, to take away the deep, sideline passing plays.
-Zone coverage across the board and played extra men in coverage rather then sending the blitz.
-They forced the Dallas offense to drive the full length of the field and covert multiple times.

Why has this been so successful?

-They cannot run the football with any consistency and take advantage of the light box. Become one dimensional.
-With so many defenders in coverage, Dak is forced to hold the football longer and make tight, accurate throws.
-The offense cannot play clean, they make too many mental mistakes that are drive killers.

-Must be able to run the football, especially against the light box. This will force teams to get out of that deep shell.
-TE passes up the seem will loosen up the coverage on the sidelines.
-Add in a legitimate screen game and force teams to make tackles in space.
Well said, this year team mgmnt is talking the talk for run game improvement- invested in OL and RB , hope williams bruising style and Blue’s quickness works out a better run game , then teams will have to stack the LOS which will open up long and intermediate passing

I believe this offense will be successful. RB looks to be significantly upgraded, and the OL is built to maul defenses. Lamb, Pickens, Jarwin, Tolbert, Turpin, and Blue will be really difficult to account for in the passing game, so we should be in a position to force defenses to pick their poison, and feast on the weaknesses that they present. It all comes down to Dak and his ability to stay healthy.

Hire a QB that can read a defense pre smap

I've been saying this when everyone was begging for a receiver. As if a receiver will help if a defense runs zone and its up to the qb at that point. But I know, the wr duo rankings are fun!
It will matter to have a legitimate #2 wr....Its not about what coverage the defense plays as much as it matters what the defense CAN play. If you know going into a game that defenses dont have two cover corners to match up with your WRs its now up to your coaching staff to plan accordingly. Knowing a week in advance that you'll be seeing a team forced to sit in deep shell 70% of the time is way different than guessing week to week how teams will try and approach you....which is what we have tried to do the last couple seasons.

The biggest issue is Dallas runs a simple offense, effective at times but simple. You know it is a run or pass by how they line up 90% of the time. Any casual fan can look at the formation and accurately guess what we are doing. And then the passing routes called also sucked. Calling short plays and expecting the players to make extra yards after the catch without the right personal who can do it was a failure.

The Negative - is that It's so effective against Dak as it plays to his weaknesses, namely, the anxiety (if the play doesnt develop as planned) and also his inability/unwilligness to scramble (which we needed vrs SF x2).
The Positive - we now have two (three if we include Blue's speed) legitimate long field threats which offsets that post-snap Safety moving down field (which does seem to catch Dak out). The varied run game also forces Defenses to 'respect' a varied run game (as opposed to how the 9ers were able to snuff out the solo Pollard threat).

run the football better and take what is given to force the defense to adjust, then attack over the top.

Very easy to defend a one dimensional attack, which is why they have to be able to run the football against the light box and make the defense pay. This will force the defense to adjust.

That's the plan.
When the run is taken away by heavy boxes or even if its failed run execution vs light boxes, it still seems the pass play opportunities are never taken advantage of.

Youre kinda stuck once that happens.
And it happens.
A LOT.

...biggest offset to this is probably lack of another #1 WR. With no other threat, easy to go two on top.

They wont do that this year..lol..
Best way to prevent shell coverage is run the ball. Force the safeties to respect the run

All QB's struggle consistently making tight, window throw. Mahomes also had his struggles when defense took away the big passing plays, the Chiefs countered with running the football better.
That’s the key. Run the ball effectively solves a lot of issues. If we can run the ball effectively and cut down on penalties the offense can be really good.

:hammer:You answered your own question. Got to run the football and use other players in the passing games besides the wide receivers.

We needed a receiver. Every type of defense was stopping our offense last season. We couldn’t run or pass. We upgraded the offensive line and the receivers. Running back is the only question.
