If Garret is indeed the Head Coach next year (Or if there is another Head Coach), who would you prefer that coach bring in to be Offensive and Defensive Coordinators?

OC: Norm Chow.

DC: Marvin Lewis (If he's fired)

Not bad. Chow has not had the best year at Los Angeles Junior College this year though. Their offnese has been awful.

My choices would be:

OC: Frank Reich (current QB coach for the Colts) OR
a former Head Coach like Dan Reeves or Brad Childress

DC: Keith Butler (current LB coach for the Steelers) OR
Dennis Thurman (current Secondary coach for the Jets)

Seriously? WCO guy to run Timing based Offense?? Or you just throwing up against wall to just throw out names?

Second, that guy universally been blamed for most unimaginative Offense in NFL by guys who watch NFL films/tape etc. YOu would to get that guy, even if hypothetically Garrett inexplicably decides to switch to WC offense or get a guy who knows WCO to run his timing based OFfense.

Frank Reich, don't know what that guy does anyway. Manning pretty much runs that Offense. Besides, Colts offense is deemed most simplistic offense. Except they run with great efficiency, and they got Peyton Manning running it. It is somewhat timing based similar to what Garrett has here.

Don't know much about Keith Butler, but Dennis Thurman is intriguing. Was going to suggest his name myself, but not sure if he is ready to run own D. Besides Jets D has been pretty cold this year, after being so hot last year. Seems like most teams have figured out their D and if they didn't have shut down corners, their D might be pretty bad.

Norv Turner and Lewis is they are fired.

That would be some serious pedigree at both coordinator positions. The game day play calling on both sides of the ball would be hella hard to outmatch.

Marvin Lewis is a 4-3 guy. We have the personnel (sp?) to run a 3-4, not a 4-3.

Continue to promote within. Dave Campo and Hudson Houck. Don't change their salary and don't replace them. Have them be the coordinator and maintain their current responsibilities.

Garrett has already said he will not give up O-coordinator duties if head coach and campo would be horrible, he cant even coach the Dbacks.

Good point.

NO...what he said was he would not like to give up PLAYCALLING duties. Big difference. Many head coaches call their own plays yet have an O.C on staff to help put together the offense, run things through.....In fact, what alot of them do in that situation is have the O.C be an Upper BOX guy instead of at field level. That way he can get a birds eye view of the D and the opportunities to exploit it.
My preference ?

O.C...Paul Chryst

DC...Dennis Thurman

Ummm... ok simmer down. I wasn't being confrontational if that's what he said I'm all for it but that's not what I read.... I think he could use some fresh ideas.

No no no. I dont think you were being confrontational at all, nor was I. I guess I could have worded it a little better. Thats the thing with the net....VERY easy to take somthing the wrong way that someone else has written. No problems whatsoever............:star:

He said he probably wouldnt give up playcalling (to Aikman privately, that hasnt been anywhere public) but he didnt say he wouldnt hire an offensive coordinator.

We know he probably would, because after the 2007 season when he was close to getting the Baltimore and Atlanta jobs he was going to hire an offensive coordinator. Paul Chryst from Wisconsin was a name that was mentioned as one of his choices.

OC Paul Chryst (who might be getting alot of interest not only for NFLK coordinator positions, but will probably start garnering interest at the college levekl as a HC somewhere)

DC Vic Fangio...Fangio was Dom Capers coordinator in Carolina (maybe in Houston too) and has extensive experience as a 3-4 coach. Currently he is DC for Jim Harbaugh at Stanford. However, Garrett wanted Capers as his DC and tried to get him on our staff here (something Wade shot down due to his love for that idiot Brian Stewart) and Fangio is very close to Capers....Fangio might be a longshot though, because he might follow Harbaugh if he goes to the NFL. If Harbaugh stays at Stanford or goes to Michigan, then Fangio is probably more of an option.

I dont think these are the only coaches who'd be new here. I think both sides of the ball could see some changes, especially defense.

Not at all. I'd like to see an experienced coordinator to offer some ideas to Garrett's offense. Childress is one of those guys who is a mediocre head coach at best and more suited to be a coordinator. He is no threat to Garrett's status as Head Coach yet experienced and qualified enough to be a voice in playcalling.

Norv Turner would be my ideal choice but I don't see him being fired this year.

Dbair mentioned Vic Fangio as DC. Not only is that a good call, I think it's a likely call. Fangio wants back in the NFL and this may be an ideal situation for both him and the Cowboys.
