No, promoting from within has not worked very well. Have you not seen enough of JG failing as a head coach?

I like Carmichael too. Any reason to believe he will not re-sign with the Saints? I am also intrigued by Chip Kelly's OC, Mark Helfrich and Alabama's OL coach, Jeff Stoutland.
