The Key to this game is often the key to any game IMO, perhaps just a little more against this Giants defense......... Balance.
I want to see nearly 100% of our 1st and 2nd down snaps come from the traditional 1RB, 1FB, 1TE, 2WR formation. This formation puts our best talent on the field and keeps it fresh. It's also the formation we've run best out of and for the most part played our best offensively.
80% Murray/20% Jones at RB and a nice rotation of Miles, Dez and Robinson within those 2WR spots. 80% Miles, 70% Dez and 50% Robinson, keeping all 3 of them fresh.
The Giants are weak defensively overall, but do rush the passer well. Their DL obviously can get it going, especially when their ears are pinned back. The LBs are weak and Secondary is mediocre at best without Philips.
So we need to go into this game thinking run first. Almost to a fault. If we stick with the running game we will do well with it. Maybe real well. We will gain positve yards on most runs. In fact I can see us gashing them quite often and perhaps even pop off a few long ones.
Because their secondary is weak, I expect to see few 8 man fronts and an overall defensive focus on coverage. I'm anticipating a healthy respect for Miles/Dez/Robinson manning the 2 WR spots and of course Witten.
They will give us room to run and favorable coverage matchups against Murray/Jones at RB.
We need to take that advanatge of that running room and look for our RB in the passing game. I could see us running the ball 38 or more times and Murray/Jones seeing 7-9 passes.
IF we do this successfully as I believe we will, it will have a few huge benefits.
1) We we stay out of 3rd and long situations for the most part where their DL is at it's best.
2) We will control the clock and wear down the defense, especially the DL.
3) By the 3rd quarter, that pass rush will be non existent. THEN we'll have a ton of chances to gash them in the passing game with big plays to close out the game.
