Kyle Kosier didn't play too badly last night. He's young enough to continue to improve and learn.

Marco Rivera played average. That's all he is these days ... an old, average guard.

With Gurode playing decent at OC, who's our next OG when Rivera is cut next year? I don't think we have anyone waiting in the wings to take over. Proctor? I have no faith in undrafted RFA's.

Kosier isn't Larry Allen, but it's nice to see a OG pull on sweeps and hit the 2nd level.

Rivera isn't getting cut. He may be average on the field but he does a ton of work with the young guys that makes him very valuable. I'd bet that Bill would never think of playing Gurode at Center without Rivera next to him

Gurode doesn't hurt Rivera, Colombo hurts Rivera so I disagree.

i am surprised we dont here more about Baptiste. The guy is a straight mauler and much more stout at the point of attack than both of the guards that are starting.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is Flozell Adam's last year.

.

Mark Tuinei, Brian Waters, Jeff Saturday, Robbie Tobeck, Matt Lepsis, Jim Langer.....

It certainly isn't unheard of. I like the shot of an offensive lineman more than most other positions.

What? My point was that Rivera improves Gurode.

I think there might be something there. He certainly didn't embarrass himself in preseason.

Did it ever cross your mind that maybe just maybe........Gurode is a much improved player regardless of whatever help Rivera might give.

By the way this is the 2006 Rivera not the 2004 version.

What is more likely? That Gurode finally started to get it on his own? Or a guy playing next to him who has a reputation for mentoring young linemen is making a difference?

Gurode seemed to play well last night. No meltdowns and stupid penalties, and no jailbreaks up the middle.

What's Johnson doing these days? Does he sub in for Gurode?

Well those questions go hand in hand in the development of any player.

The facts are it is a little of both, but I am not surprised (based on your Gurode posts over the past 3 months) you'd the think the latter question has a better chance of happening.

So far you've been WRONG, it appears you grasping for straws to shed a bad light on Gurode..........the dummy beat the weight gainer fair and square. They both had Rivera at their disposal, Gurode made the best of it.

Do yoythink theirs the chance that Gurode's abilities might make Rivera better. He's stronger at the point of attack?

Gurode is finally starting to live up to his potential you would think all Cowboy fans would be excited and supportive not looking for excuses to tear him down. He was a mauler with a nasty streak at Colorado, I for one am glad to see him starting to push people around on Sundays.

Yawn.

You have your theory -- that Rivera is getting made better by Gurode. Me, I believe the simpler explanation, that Rivera, a vet who has played in the probowl and who has a reputation for helping young guys improve, is making Gurode better.

How is my post shedding a bad light on Gurode? He has improved. That's a good thing. Does it shed a bad light on him to attribute some of that to Rivera? Or does it have to be that he just finally got it on his own?

If I wanted to shed a bad light on the guy I could bring up the whole "Tucker was distracting him" angle -- but I really can't believe that could be true.

Gurode was never awful and he has games where he just mauls people (think carolina last year) he made some dumb plays last year but our whole line did.

We can be a very good line if Adams, and Columbo play like they did last night that was very inspiring

D'Anthony Batiste on the practice squad so it's unlikely we will hear anything about him unless someone goes down.

Guys who look good in pre-season going against the other team's 3rd team scrubs aren't always great players.

Wasn't Tuinei drafted by the Cowboys? I know he started out as a DE and was converted to OT.

Well, if he was a Larry Allen he'd be on the bench. Larry's been hurt for the first two games. His new coach prabably didn't make him run much and he was out of shape again.
