The Cowboys are actually 4th in the league in offensive hold calls. They have 26 this season. You know who is tied for second? The Colts, with 27. They are tied with Cleveland.

The offensive line that bullied the Cowboys all day Sunday actually has been called for holding more than Dallas! The difference is, the Colts have given up only 16 sacks in 14 games while the Cowboys have given up 51. I am going to venture an opinion that the Colts' sacks number is low because Luck gets rid of the ball quickly or he runs several times a game to avoid getting sacked. We all know Dak is slow to see the defense and also slow to get moving when there is nothing there. Hence, he gets sacked a lot.

There was talk during the pregame that Luck has worked a ton on getting the ball out quickly in order to avoid the punishment that he was taking in his first few years in the league. That work has paid off.

Amazing conclusion. Then why didn't Dak have all these sacks in 2016 and 2017?

I guess your theory just lost its luster?

Sacks
2016=28
2017=32
2018=51 (15 games)

No, he just has a better Oline then he did before. The Colts have made it their number 1 priority to improve the Oline.

THE SKINNY:

One of the more reworked and reshaped units on the Colts this offseason, the offensive line should feature an exciting mixture of young talent and veteran leadership.

While Anthony Castonzo (left tackle) and Ryan Kelly (center) return at their respective positions, the Colts used their first-round pick, No. 6-overall, to land Notre Dame’s Quenton Nelson to be their left guard, while they then used a second-round pick on Auburn’s Braden Smith to be the right guard of the future.

But not to be overlooked are the free agent signings of guard Matt Slauson and tackle Austin Howard, each of whom brings tons of experience and success to the unit.

We all already know that Dak's a work in progress and has areas he needs to work on. 3rd year player guys...he's got flaws...he was a 4th rounder....he's got flaws....he's also shown enough to warrant further development especially with how hard and expensive it is to find a decent QB. He isn't as bad as many people want to pretend, he's average but he's got the upside to also become a quality starting NFL QB.

Our o-line though has also been piss poor in pass blocking...this topic is beat to death, both Dak and the O-line need work, period.

...another bias. Dallas playing 2nd tier OL. How the hell does Dak get sacked 51 times? Dak got worse as the OL deteriorated.

Andrew Luck, who certainly has more raw talent than Dak, has taken about 4-5 years to really learn the QB position in a way that doesn’t shorten his career. He has learned its better to just get rid of the ball quickly than to try to hold the ball looking for a late breaking receiver.

In addition to his learning to get the ball out quicker, Luck has also been the beneficiary of a new offense implemented by new HC Frank Reich, who had been Filly’s creative OC during their championship drive last season.

Bottom line- Dak needs a new OC who is a QB whisperer who can maximize his skills and has a more creative scheme. Dak is still just 25. And although he certainly has obvious deficiencies, IMO, he has not had great coaching on his fundamentals.

Luck is the 8th quickest getting the ball out, Dak is 29th ... so yeah...

and to add to this, Dak is in the lower quarter of yards per attempt so Dak holding the ball longer than 90% of the QB's to check the ball down...

Luck was great even when he had a bad Oline. But now he has a very good one. Some guys are just THAT good. Luck is a generational type QB like Mahones. Dak isn't that guy. But its not like we spent a first round pick on him. Give the guy back his good Oline and give him real coaching. I would also not stop looking. Trading for Mullen of SF seemed like a great idea.

I agree with you about the team continuing to look. I was always frustrated in the later Romo years when the team just refused to even try to draft a QB. You can’t even get lucky on someone you never draft or take a chance on in FA.

The part that pisses me off the most is that Dak seems to be incapable and allergic to throwing the ball away. Luck, and any QB with awareness, can and will get rid of it just to avoid the drive killing losses when facing pressure.

He (theoretically) knows where his WRs will be, so why he won't just chunk it to the sidelines in the area of a WR when he has pressure clamping down on him, I'll never know. Instead, he wants to stare at the rush, panic, and fumble or take a sack.

Nobody better come with the "Dak's young, he's learning" BS on this one. That is something all QBs are taught from pee wee age.

It’s not going to change. They can’t handle the interior rush,as Dallas simply isn’t good enough to deal with it in their situation. This is regardless of Dak too,no QB has a chance on those middle bullrush plays. You’re running backwards as soon as the ball is snapped. And never mind they just aren’t a well disciplined group,who without a doubt lead the league in inopportune penalty situations. So not only are they at a disadvantage personnel wise,they are at a mental one as well. Only one way to fix it,and that’s to replenish the line again through draft talent,and a full off-season with Detective Columbo. As for Dak? He seriously needs to work on changing his game,but I said that last year too and here we still are,so I won’t be holding my breath.

It's frustrating to watch the rush coming and see Dak just not get rid of the ball. At least the happy feet have calmed down in the last few weeks.

Colts have a very good O-line but Luck gets the ball out quick. Very similar to the short passing game the Eagles and Patriots utilize. For most of the season Luck had a very low YPA by design. Dallas runs long developing plays and needs a short quick passing game installed. Get a new O.C already.

Yep. The happy feet and technique are getting under control, but accuracy, pocket presence, and getting rid of the ball are still a problem.

Throwing the ball away would seem to be the low hanging fruit for improvement.

Dak’s young...he’s learning. Lol. Just messin’ with you brother!

This has been a huge issue for me with the franchise. Have to be like the Patriots. Most important position in football. Keep drafting them. NEVER pass on a QB you like. Trade them if they become good.

Only in his 3rd year. And his first 24 games of his career he had such a good Oline he didn't have to deal with it much. Then Dez and Witten are gone. Had to get used to new, lame receivers. Takes time for young QB's.
