We now have Smith and Freddie. We know it will be Parnell/Free at tackle. All of those guys make the roster.

So we likely have two interior spots up for the taking. Who rises from last year's ashes to start in the two guard spots AND fills them adequately? What are the chances that when the 2014 draft comes around that we will say ... we don't HAVE to draft an offensive lineman with a premium pick and our OL depth is adequate.

There's no reason in the world that Livings won't be a starter.

He played above average last season.

Broaddus and the guys on talkin cowboys have said again that the Cowboys graded Bernadeau higher than they did Livings.

They also decided against restructuring Livings' deal so he is the guy that may not even make the 53.

I thought it was the other way but I'm not privy to their responsibilities on a given play.

Really not sure whst they were watching. Sadly for us Bernardeau was playing in the backfield way too often. He missed numerous stunts, gets bullrushed easy and is basically a pile of horse poo.
Having said all that is anyone really surprised we graded him high?

I wouldn't say above average, but he was serviceable. I think you can pretty much pencil in Tyron, Livings and Frederick making up 3/5 of the OL. Sadly, I think Free is the RT because if Leary beats out Bernadeau, which I believe will happen, the Cowboys wouldn't want Parnell and Leary playing next to each other as starters. Too much uncertainty there IMO.

I don't think the two interior spots are up for the taking. Dallas brought in Livings and Bernadeau to start and there's no real indication that either will lose his starting spot.

Livings played well through the first half of the season, and probably graded as our best lineman over that stretch (while Smith was adapting to left tackle). Then he faded down the stretch for some reason (injury has been cited). Although he showed lots of power at the point of attack, defenders started beating him with quick moves to his inside.

Bernadeau got off to a slow start with his camp injuries possibly slowing his adjustment to the offense and his linemates. He was simply overpowered the first half of the season. In the second half of the season, he seemed to get comfortable and was one of our better linemen.

I see Dallas believing both will be better in their second seasons, and Jones and Callahan have essentially said that. I don't like that plan without a better backup plan than Leary progressing or moving Frederick to guard if necessary (which would mean starting Costa at center), but I believe it is the plan.

It may sound nuts, but keep an eye on Arkin and Leary.

Callahan likes both of them at guard

If we can get just one good guard with the Beard at center we will have a serviceable line. If we can somehow get two guards playing decently we will have a decent line.
RT will be I think the great uncertainty unless Free does time travel or Parnell suddenly gets it.

We don't really have a TE who can help on the edges anymore either.

Arkin seems to me like a long shot to even make the team. But in today's paper, Callahan outlined several reasons to not overlook him at guard.

Is there a link to this anywhere online, or can you post what he said?

Livings is going absolutely nowhere, he's fully guaranteed this year and next.

But Bernie should be on a very hot seat after giving up seven (SEVEN!) sacks as a guard last season. To put that in perspective, that's as many as Doug Free gave up last year. I really hope someone in our platoon of JAGS can step up and be beat out Bernie so we can rehab that side of the line.

Broaddus said on Talkin Cowboys that they went back and rewatched the tape (not sure if they as in show hosts or the cowboys FO) and that they had livings giving up more sacks than Bernie. Pretty sure he said he thought Livings was better than bernie though.

I realize Costa was our part time center but I believe he could possibly supplant Bernadeau for the rg spot...

Which is true. Livings did give up more sacks. Between the two of them, they gave up like 11 sacks, which is too many for a guard tandem.

I think the team could survive with Livings at guard, but it wouldn't break my heart to see someone beat him out in the preseason.

You have it backwards. They restructured Bernadeau's contract but backed out of doing it to Livings' contract. They graded Bernadeau out better than Livings.
