Offensive Line- In a nutshell

There has been so much complaining about this offensive line through the first 3 games and rightfully so. As a unit they are playing horrible. Romo has been running for his life out there. If it wasn't for his ability to escape the rush, there would be several more sacks. If the line continues to struggle blocking then it doesnt matter who we have at skill positions. Jim Brown could be at Tailback, Dan Marino at QB, with Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin on the outside and this team would fail.

The problem is continuity. They have not played together at all, except for these 3 games. Cook was added before the regular season. Bernadeau and Livings were hurt the majority of training camp. This line has to get reps and gel together. Callahan really has his job cut out for him. But they can only improve. They cannot get any worse, right?

Here is each member of line, broken down individually.

Tyron Smith- Remember folks he is only 21 years old and playing left tackle for the first time in forever. He is going to struggle because of the new position and because he is still young. He played great last year as a Right Tackle and our expectations were out the roof. Well i'm here to tell you, this guy is going to be a stud Left Tackle for many years to come. Think Jonathan Ogden, Walter Jones, Willie Roaf, Joe Thomas. He will struggle, but he's a beast. Its crazy to even imagine moving him back to the right side. He's our left tackle for the next 10-15 years. The false start penalties with him have to stop though. But please folks, stop with the panic over him.

Nate Livings- Probably been the best of the bunch so far. He doesnt stand out, but is solid. The knock on him while he was in Cincinatti is his consistency. And you can really see that already. He has his ups and downs. I think this will be a good under the radar signing for this year. Not as good as the Kosier signing from back in the day, but will be a solid starter here the next few years.

Ryan Cook- What can we not say about him. He might of saved our season week 1 against the Giants. He came in right away and picked up the offense. He does get bullied around at times, but we cannot be any happier with him. We gave up a 7th round pick right before the season started. Thats a win. Once he gels with Romo and the rest of the line, I think the entire unit will improve. When Costa is healthy i'm not sure he gets his job back. I can actually see Cook being moved to Right Tackle or Right Guard once Costa is back. Cook is very versatile. Great trade.

Mackenzy Bernadeau- Well this guy has struggled. Especially in the run blocking. He was signed to be a starter, and he's dissapointed so far. I would prefer for him to be a backup. I think thats where his value is. Hopefully he can improve, but if not this right side of the line is in trouble.

Doug Free- What happened to him? He looks out of shape and out of wack. He was a solid Right Tackle a few years ago, and was a little out of place last year as a Left Tackle. Most of us, including the coaching staff, figured he would make a smooth transition back to the right side. So far he hasnt. He looks horrible out there. The lack of depth on this team is the only thing keeping him in the lineup. I'm not sure Jeremy Parnell is ready for big time yet. Something has to be done about the right side of this line, or Romo wont make it to November.

you are spot on, no group needs continuity more than OL--give them a few more games and then we can start benching them if they don't improve
