Offensive line is offensive

Vanilla or not, our offensive line play has been weak all year. Not just in pre-season games, but I saw the same thing in training camp here in S.A. I chalked it up to Ware and Spencer, but the games have shown that they can't protect Romo and can't run the ball AT ALL against anyone. Time for Jerry to make some phone calls.

Phone calls to who and for what?

This is it... this is the team for the 2010 season.

McNeil from the Chargers. Then move Free back to right tackle. This is a serious situation that needs to be addressed or it's going to be a 8-8 year or worse.

Vanilla has nothing to do with their pass protection.

It can hurt some in the running game because the defense pretty much knows you're running it.

But in the passing game there is no excuse.

Gurode was nothing short of awful yesterday.

Should have been addressed in draft. O well I hope Jerry gets a vet and quick. Mcneil would be fantastic. 9 is gonna be in for a long season.

Free is going to be fine. Kosier is good on his technique but not strong enough. Gurode plays dumb and slow. Davis is good when and if he gets his hands on the defender. Columbo has a great attitude but his health has slowed him down. Gurode and Davis has become a big liability whenever a stunt or delayed blitz is run between them. Most teams have picked up on this just like the Texans last night. Run blocking is terrible due to the lack of speed. These problems should have been addressed in the last few drafts (2009 ,instead of a special teams draft). I like the big , mauling linemen if they have good feet. The Cowboys haven`t done a good job of finding these types and, when they did, they weren`t drafted. The 2010 line is just a year older and slower than the 2009 version with the exception of Free. Until the scouting and drafting improve, free agency is the only answer but it`s going to get expensive.

Pretty much. As nightmarish as the line is, this is it for the season.

it is the interior of the OL that worries me. *** happened to Leonard Davis?

There is nothing wrong with him physically.

Davis and Gurode have shown no awareness in the preseason so far though.

I hate to throw this at Houck but they look poorly coached.

There is no way they should be this bad at picking up stunts and blitzes.

Wasn't it Nate Newton that inferred that this offensive line is lacking in its ability to handle the mental aspect of the game.

Maybe it's not Houck.

Gurode and Davis have been in this league a long time. A stunt is a stunt. It wasn't any big surprise.

Maybe at some point Costa should be tried at center. Everything that I've read infers that he's a smart kid.

Seems like the oline was probably in the same vanilla meeting as the rest of the team.

The problem is not at tackle.

Even Jean Jacques Taylor understands the reasoning why Dallas will not go after Marcus McNeill. Sometimes, fantasy football rational is not a good thing.

Yeah what is McNeal going to do?

We need our "Pro Bowl" center and guard to pull their head out.

It is stunts up the middle that are killing us. Free is doing a good job.

Now I hope with some game planning the o linemen will know what to look for. Right now the straight up blocking schemes are killing us.

And Felix needs to Start. Barber has looked SLOW this off season

Stunts and delayed blitzes have been killing Houck's offensive lines with the Cowboys since 1997.

2007 - Sparano OL Coach - 531 pass attempts, 25 sacks, sacked on 4.7% of pass attempts.
2008 - Houck OL Coach - 547 pass attempts, 31 sacks, sacked on 5.6% of pass attempts.
2009 - Houck OL Coach - 558 pass attempts, 34 sacks allowed, sacked on 6.0% of pass attempts.

No reason to believe the further downward trend and decline of the offensive line under Houck won't continue.

We should start calling him Hudson Hoax.

Brian Broaddus, I think.

and yet everyone still wants to blame the tackles...

Free has played well and we should be good with him going into the real season.
