Offensive line overkill in the offseason

I'd like to totally stack the offensive line with talent in the offeason.

We should sign Kevin Mawae to a 2-3 year incentive laden contract.
We should sign the best free agent tackle we can find.

Then draft a tackle in the first, and a guard in the 2nd.

#1 Kevin Mawae is old and injured. True, but is still a skilled player, and we would still have Al Johnson. Maybe even getting Mawae would help him along faster.

#2 Where do we find the money? We have like 10 million + in dead money, add on that the fact that Singleton will be cut, and we won't have A-train or Price on the roster next year.

#3 We can't put such high picks in the draft towards the oline? Why not... look at what we did for our defensive front 7. And look at the results. We need to insure our offense for the future, as well as the present.

#4 We already have too migh money tied up in the offensive line. True but I think doing this creates a bridge into options for the future. In Parcells year 5 we could trade Flozell, we wouldn't necessasarily have to keep certain veterans.

I think flozell is back next year, his contract is probably too much to cut, and unless we find a solid vet no reason to cut him. I wouldnt mind a few OL picks this year, i think its necessary to have the kind of depth at OL we have at DL which is a huge plus. But I think we need to focus overall on offense. We need an offensive draft exactly the way we had a defensive draft this year. we wont have two #1's but with our #1 we should be able to get a top wr or top FS. then we can go ol in the later rounds, but round #1 WR or FS will be more important.

Every year we should be drafting OL and DL to add depth and replenish the ranks. That's where this game is won utlimately. The Rogers, Peterman draft, however, is not looking so good at this point.

havent quit on Peterman i think itll be awhile before he ever starts, if he ever does. I havent really heard anything bad about Peterman so i think its safe to assume he's doing good enough to remain as depth to larry allen?

Peterman- too early to tell. But we do need to pickup a couple of more guys in the later rds to develope overthe next 2 years. One guard and one tackle- and maybe a center; Al is just not doing the job well enough for a team trying for the SB. Gurode- just does not seem to be able to keep his head in the game. I think Pettiti is the real deal; Tucker- we shall see this season. We get Flo back next year anyway. If Tucker continues to do well then I say get a center and get a guard in the 3-5 rds. And maybe get a FA or 2. Rivera - jury is still out. LA should have a couple of good years left.

I've been thinking about the same thing this year...I think with a very deep OT draft this year, we jump on it. If one of the top LT fall to us...we jump! Move Flo to RT and compete with Pettiti...not only will we have good young OT's, but a strong swing OT.

We also need a guard this year...not sure Peterman is the answer...we must draft one to fill LA when he leaves at end of 2006 season...if he does.

Center is becoming a concern too...FA's cost so much...ala Rivera. I think we have to look hard at the draft this year to get some more promising lineman...

I agree that this year is pretty strong in terms of OT depth, not sure i'd want us to take one, unless the right one fell to us. i'd love to get McNeil from Auburn thats a real hotel. I do think guard depth needs to be addressed, one of the reasons i really wanted fonoti from the chargers. Larry Allen can only play for so long, and Rivera who knows how much longer he can go. I wish we had gotten fonoti I think hes gonna be back to the probowl if he can restart in the right system.

I was with 100% on Fonoti until I heard he hit over 400+ lbs...yikes. I think we were both posting to get this guy...crazy not too, but holy cow 400 lbs. That's nuts...he's wasting huge potential if he does not control that.

I think we'll draft WR first then pretty heavy on OLs, ILBs, and FSs.

I think Bill can help him lose that weight before next season.

too much money is invested in the Oline already, if we're going to shell out any more big bucks for the Oline, it should be for a young, talented guy we draft in the 1st, to sit behind Flozell at LT, and then a couple of mid-late round picks to add depth

Right now I'd say its more important to put a higher pick into WR, if the right player is there. If not then look at OL, DL, LB, CB. FS is important, but I'd rather use a higher pick on CB and have some good depth there than use one on FS. Not saying I acutally would draft a CB this year, just saying that I'd rather see us draft a CB in 1 than a FS in 1.

I'd be shocked if we took FS in the first rd...all the money we have in Roy, Tnew, and Henry...no way. At best a 2nd rounder.

I would love a WR, but I'm not sure BP will go that route...he loves Keys, Glenn, and Crayton right now. I'm thinking we will in 2007 draft.

My money is on 1st round OT...either that or trade it to 2007...two firsts in 2007 puts us in QB sweepstakes...about the time we'd consider grooming one behind Bledsoe.

I'm not entertaining the thought of us trading down, if a player is there that Parcells and Jerry like, we'll stand pat

and we are grooming someone behind Bledsoe, actually someone(s)

With a combined 3 quarters on NFL experience in total, and with serious question marks.
