Offensive Line the problem

The Cowboys offense has scored a total of 5 TDs in the first three games of the season. They've scored 1 TD in each of the last two games, and are averaging 77 rushing yards per game, with 1 rushing TD. The stats show they've given up 7 sacks, but that is a misnomer. If not for one of the most elusive QBs in the NFL, the damage would be far worse. The hits Romo HAS been taking makes me feel strongly that he won't finish the season-alive.

The offensive line that Jerry Jones has put on the field this season is truly offensive...and Jerry was there when a mighty one led Emmitt Smith to the all-time rushing title, so he gets no pass.

Jones drafted zero offensive linemen this past draft, knowing his OG situation was dire. Instead, he signed two yeoman FA guards, hoping to get by. The two OLs he drafted last year, Arkin & Nagy, were so incapable at OC, that when his mediocre starter, Phil Costa, went down, HC Jason Garrett was forced to insert newly acquired OG Ryan Cook into the position.

This is NOT how to build an offensive line. Most great OCs are taken by the 3rd round, usually sooner. This team hasn't taken an interior lineman in the top half of the draft in years. It's time to begin.

An OC in the first, a pass rusher (preferably Lemonier out of Auburn) in the second, and an OG in the third should be the first three players taken in the '13 draft, or this team never makes it TO the playoffs in the Romo era, let alone through them. Let's just get Romo through this season alive, somehow, then begin building a real offensive line.

Way to go, Ohio. Good post.

We have one very young blue-chip tackle, no center, and the rest are average or below. They haven't performed well individually, or as a unit.
If they get Romo injured, we're a sub-.500 team.

The failure to address OL talent shows the GM's glaring weakness for showmanship. He played OL - he should know better.

Make that a 4 win team.

This part (above) is the MEAT of the OP. It comes down to depth, and Dallas has none. We're bad now on the OL, and we're one injury away from total disaster.

The Stealers drafted OG DeCastro in the 1st round and OT Mike Adams in the 2nd round. How's that plan working out? Looked great on paper. Turns out neither is ready to play right now and their secondary is getting torched, beat by the winless Raiders and the hapless Carson Palmer, giving up 34 pts.

It doesn't come down to depth. It comes down to no talent. Our starters are horrific wastes of space minus the emerging LT. Our depth is actually good. Replace one stiff with another. No drop off.

I disagree. Smith played poorly the first two weeks and wasn't looking like he was emerging from anything.

I still maintain that Livings has played well and has been our best most consistent lineman so far. Not saying that means much but he has been playing better than the emerger.

What's the chances Costa actually plays this season? Playing center is not good with a back issue. I think it is going to be lingering all season and if he does come back, it won't take much to re-injure.

Is it a disc problem or a muscle problem? I have no idea.

Decastro was injured for the season in a preseason game. Get the facts straight before you run your mouth next time.

DeCastro was playing poorly even before the injury. Ben had a talk with him and asked him what was wrong. DeCastro said he was having a hard time getting used to the physicality of the game. It wasn't until after several injuries on the Stealers OL and some reshuffling that DeCastro was moved into the starting lineup. Thought I heard that DeCastro wasn't done for the season but could come back after several months from IR.

But, I'm sure you knew all that.;)

Honestly, I hope the chances are slim.

I think Cook is doing well enough.

We won five without him in 2010 and that was with a crappy defense. With this defense we could be 8-8 without Romo.

Romo is all that is standing between us and setting the league record in sacks given up in a season. if he goes down in the next few weeks there is absolutely no chance Orton leads us to 8-8 behind this line, i doubt he even survives a game if it comes to that

So you're going to judge player’s ability on his first training camp and a pre-season game????

At that rate Mo Claiborne is an injury bust!
