Last year Zack Martin wasn't able to take home OROY, but I'm wondering if the conditions and the increased spotlight will allow La'el Collins to take home those honors if he starts this year on this line.

That would be quite the chapter in his story.

With the number of WR's RBs and the two QBs...I really doubt it.

Man it is hard to get ROY from the OL position. It is just not very flashy! Maybe a few tackle eligible TD catches could help? :)

I think had ODB not exploded onto the scene Martin would have had a legitimate shot at it.

It would be tough for him to get noticed enough to pull it off. Even Martin did not get the honor when he rightfully could have.

I think Martin's contributions last year and this year make it even more likely for Collins to get noticed.

He might get "noticed". He might end up an All Pro.

But OROY? Good luck with that. A lineman is going to have a tough time winning that even when dominant and able to change the fortunes of an entire offense like Martin was.

Yeah, with Gurley, Gordon, Cooper, etc......I'm sure at least one of those high profile rooks is going to have even just a decent year which will overshadow a great year by an o lineman. Which is what I would settle for from Collins. At this point, I don't put much into personal accolades, I just want the Cowboys to succeed as a team. From the owner down to the ball deflator.

Should have been drafted in the first round, probably top 15 pick.... Yeah, he is penciled in.

I think he's probably better than Leary, but that's really tough to say until you see the players actually playing. There's a ton of development that comes from just being in the league for a few years. Weight training, the benefit of experience. Just being completely familiar with the playbook is hugely important, even at LG. Leary's three years in the league is more than a full college career's worth of games since coming out. That's a lot of water under the bridge from the time he was drafted himself. A lot happens to a player in that time.

I know it's easy to say that the top-15 pick is going to be better out of the gate than the UDFA he's potentially replacing, but there's more too it than that.

And we have a 35 year old QB with a bad back that these linemen have to protect. How about we not screw around and actually put the best player on the field? He's not coming in to replace Robert Brewster, he's either going to battle it out with Leary or Doug Free. Both are pretty damn good.

It's also about investing in his growth. The snaps he will get with the 1st team will make him a better player and make this a better offensive line.

You can't ignore that.

Or, if he can't beat out an incumbent, they can develop him in the background and just not give the big deal to the young LG with a chronic knee condition already on the roster next offseason. Either way, Collins is going to get the snaps he needs to justify that big second contract. He needs quality more than quantity snaps on his resume, anyway. One year of development and two solid years of starting and playing at a high level is as good as three years of starting from a second contract perspective. Better, maybe, as it's less wear-and-tear.

He might win the job outright, though. I could see him being naturally talented enough to win it outright. Or to win the RT job. More likely, he fills in as an injury replacement at some point (knock on @Wood) and just never looks back, but you never know.

This

Plus, Dallas improved from 8-8 to 12-4 and the oline (and the addition of Martin) got a ton of credit for it last year.
Now that the line's already considered elite, it'll be hard to show radical improvement no matter ho the rookie plays

To many great skill guys this year.
