This is my feeling on why they keeping Swanson and Rod Smith. Swanson has tremendous speed and he's the fifth cornerback so that's an ideal position for a project cornerback. He stayed close to his man all through pre-season and showed a lot during that last game. They're just giving him a shot to keep learning. As for Rod Smith he's the brother of Jaylon Smith. And I think that they're trying to figure out a way to keep him so that they can keep Jaylon Smith happy. Maybe a bit of a conspiracy theorist but that's my take.

This organization is infested with nepotism from the front office to the head coach, so I have no problem with them keeping Rod Smith for no other reason than the fact that he's Jaylon's brother
