Experiment worked with Shields. Typically conversion projects rarely work out.
It would be interesting to see a full list of players that have converted from WR to CB.
I had in mind that Will Blackmon (Skins) had done it, but he only played WR as a college Senior having previously played CB.
Quinton Dunbar (Skins) was a college WR that was converted to CB in the NFL. I don't know how good he is, but he was a rookie UDFA in 2015 and started 2 games and then starter another 2 games in 2016.
The conversions that currently interest me are the guys that didn't play much if any football in college because the Cowboy are trying to make a player out of Rico Gathers.
Quinton Rollins as previously mentioned was a college basketball player that played 1 year of college football.
The Seahawks current starting LT is a rookie (George Fant) that only played basketball in college.
Jermey Parnell was a college basketball player that then played 6 games of college football at DE. When the Cowboys got him he had been a TE project by another team and weighed about 275. The Cowboys built him into a good OT that is now over 320. Previous OL coach Bill Calahan said he was surprised the media didn't pick up on that as a really good story.
I'm also interested in Terrelle Pryor as a free agent. He (obviously) was a college QB that moved to WR this season with the Browns. He is a freak athlete (pre-draft: 6-5, 232, 4.38 forty.
