Either that or they use Swaim as the blocking TE/FB and don't carry the FB.

Overall feelings...

Not a bad draft. We got two guys who will have an immediate role in the defense. I like their versatility too. Jones will be a CB or perhaps our starting FS, and Gregory will be a DE and perhaps moved around the field in pressure situations.

But I don't see any picks from rounds 3-7 having an immediate impact. Chaz Green won't play a single snap if the O-line stays healthy. But it is good to have him since Free won't be here forever and he's insurance in case someone goes down. It was the smart pick, but it's a bit disappointing knowing your 3rd rounder in a stacked draft class probably won't see the field for another 2 years.

The same can be said about the LB we got in the 4th. If Lee and the others can stay healthy, I don't see him getting many snaps. But it was a solid pick since we've been getting depleted with injuries at the LB position for years.

Not sure about the DE in the 5th. It's good that we're loading up on DEs. He'll be part of the rotation. At the moment, he's probably our 6th DE so a roster spot isn't guaranteed.

Overall, I loved the first 2 rounds. The picks in the later rounds were smart for the future but I don't see any of them even contributing this year. Which is a bit disappointing since there were many guys on the board that I felt would make an instant contribution (DT, RB, maybe an extra CB).

Overall, solid draft. First 2 pics were obviously the best. The rest remains to be seen, only time will tell.


My only 2 complaints: I'm starting to wish we would've taken DT Michael Bennett instead of Ryan Russell. Not sure why he slipped, but I'll take great college production over a guy with "potential but a poor motor" any day. Bennett had a 2nd round grade and is a stand-up kid, so maybe there's something we don't know about.

Second, wish we would've just drafted Geoff Swaim with the pick we spent on the 25 year-old LB who will be lucky to make our special teams, instead of trading next year's 6th rounder. Seems kind of pointless. But, I digress. It's a minor thing and we'll be getting some compensatory picks in next year's draft to make up for it.

Overall, good draft. Glad Jerrah and co stuck to the plan to build up the D.

McFadden may have been one of the worst starting HBs in the NFL over the last couple. Decent role player. But he isnt a lead back. Randle showed some real promise last last year, and I think is the only back on our roster capable of cracking 1,000 even with a dominant line

Well, I guess he, McFadden, Williams and even Dunbar are going to get their chance to prove me wrong. I think Dallas has been very nonchalant about its running back position this year despite how much we benefited from a good running attack last year, and I hope it doesn't come back to bite us.

I thought for an ultra late pick, Anthony Harris and Ladarius Gunter would've been interestiing...Shane Carden too

As with any draft, I would've made a bunch of diff choices in the mid rounds especially.
Doesn't mean I'd be right, but just saying.

I've grown to trust of personnel guys, so looking forward to seeing how these guys turn out

I agree. They could be right, they may have a good committee formula. DMC, or Randell may emerge... But why have so many ifs? This draft had backs that could have eliminated some of those "ifs".... but hey, they obviously like their backs more than any of us.

I would venture to guess that picks 3-7 will see playing time in the 4th in games where we have a solid lead. They'll need to get their feet wet.

NFL.COM gave one failing grade out of all the teams in their Quick Snap Draft Grades and it was given to the Cowboys on Day 3. I agree, after doing so well days 1 and 2, they really fell flat on their faces on day 3.
