The watermellons we get in the NE aren't like the ones in Texas. They are like 33% of the size. Think a little bigger than a bowling ball. We do sometimes get the really sweet good ones, but it's knowing how it pick a watermellon that ensures you get a good one. I've become a master at it. (though it's actually quite simple!)

True story:

Here where I work, one of the ranch hands looked out the window one morning and saw a coyote running with an entire watermelon in it's mouth. The melon was nearly as big as the coyote. He had sunk his teeth into it and was hurridly carrying it off somewhere to eat it.
