He should have just gave the security guy $100 and told him have a good night. That would have been more than he made that night anyways.

Elliot caught a break IMO.. Since he has been suspended before.

Goodell realized he overstepped his bounds in dealing with Zeke last time.

Collective bargaining agreement redo is right around the corner.

Goodell did not want the NFLPA to make a big push to reduce his authority.

The players want other things the league will cave on.

Had he swung the ban hammer again, without cause again, he might have
been the sacrificial lamb in the negotiations.

I don't know about any 'sacrificial lamb' talk, but I will say this. It is telling what is currently happening (and not happening) within the league's decisions. They've learned - albeit the hard way - that over-policing and punishing of their players is foolish and self-inflicted damage.

Compare the two situations with Elliott specifically:

Last year, the league went nuts on some crusade to 'get tough' on domestic violence. To the point where they suspended a player for six games with no evidence or charges against him. That carried on for months in the courts and in the press and did no one involved any favors. Not the league, certainly not the player.

Now, they've realized that there's no point in being overly vindictive and looking for trouble. It serves no point and it helps no one. They decided not to punish Elliott, and does anyone hear or read any groups complaining about that? Any negative press against that decision like there was last year? Anybody calling for Goodell's head because he didn't suspend a player? I sure haven't seen anything.

I feel the next point they'll make is in regard to marijuana testing and penalties. There's no point in that either, when it's not performance enhancing, and legal in many areas of the country. Nobody cares guys! You shouldn't either. I think it took longer than it should have for a billion dollar corporation to realize these things, but better late than never I suppose.
